Basic Stereo Question

Is it OK to keep a CD in the stereo at all times? What about cassettes?

thanks....should the casette be completed removed or can it be ejected while still be in....i would think you need to completely remove it so the casette door would fully close and keep dust out......?.......

Yeah pull it all the way out. Keeps dust out. CDs no problem. I didn't know someone was still using tapes! I'm going with MP3 due to the none skip factor while offroading.

thanks guys!

yeah, cassettes still have their uses....I kinda use the CD AND Cassette player as a way of having Multi-options on demand: Live Skynyrd in the CD player and studio Skynyrd in the cassette deck - I need my variety!

but i think i am going to take the cassette out and only use it when i absolutely have to......

basically all of this has been said before: keeping CD's in shouldn't be a problem, keeping tapes in will get the mechanism dusty. I wouldn't keep a CD in the CD player and keep it on pause for any extended period of time instead of turning off the unit. My girlfriend has been guilty of doing that. So long as the CD isnt spinning, it should be safe.

As others have said cassette should be out when not playing, a cousin left a tape in his radio one hot sunny day and the thing actually partailly melted inside the radio! it came out with the case distorted and the tape a little soft. {he took the thing apart and put the tape in a new body and it played ok but he had to clean the hu inside first. *this was back in the day before CD (BCD? )} on the CD side I think it depends on the unit. Generally speaking it should not be an issue but some headunits [Kenwood Exilon series for one] use the CD as a heat sink to help cool the unit. Over the long term a single CD left in constantly might warp, particularly if it were a home made CD-R as they seem to be thinner than factory CDs.
