98 taco cd/tape into an 86 runner?

anyone have an idea on a wiring harness or if it would remotely work. i have the stock cd/tape deck from my 98 taco, and want to put it in my 86 runner.

thanks,
J

it will either plug right in, or you will need to use a combination of harnesses to make the two talk to eachother correctly.

if they dont plug right in......
into the radio from the 98 you will want to use a metra 71-1761, and for the truck you will need a 70-1398. match them up color for color.

do NOT connect any of the illumination wires, orange or orange/white, or orange black. just insulate them off. the dimmer circuit is different from the two years and you will end up burning up the dimmer control and lose all interior dash lighting. ask me how I know

let me know if you have any other questions.

The 86 and 98 PLugs are not the same.

However, toyota makes an adapter harness to go from the 86 style plugs, to the 98 style plugs, making it plug and play. Talk to the local dealer, they should be able to source them for you.
