3RD Gen Subwoofer

I've got a '99 4Runner with the 6 speaker system. With the CD/Tape factory unit, it does sound great but I would love to improve that deep base. Does anyone have any thoughts on adding a self-powered subwoofer to the rear end on a 3rd Gen. Would it fit on the Driver side, can I fit that amp somewhere out of site? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I picked one up off eBay for $90. It takes speaker level, as well as line level, inputs and has good bass for the size and price. You can mount it vertically or horizontally.

Keeping it hidden...

The Infinity systems sound great, but they don't mount on a panel unless you go with the Basslink T which is just to big for a 4runner. I think an 8" or 10" Infinity or JBL subwoofer mounted with a separate amp might work better and be easier to keep out of site. I have just installed a Sirius Sportster 5 under the center console lid (keeps it totally out of site) but I wonder what is behind that drivers side rear quarter panel, I don't even know how to get access yet. Does anyone know if that area works for a subwoofer?

Heres a picture of how I did mine granted it a 2nd gen but you should have the same cargo/jack storage compartment in back of your's as well and they work great for a 10" just mdf the inside and build a face for the outside and mount it to the inside edges of the inner box

I hid my MTX amp under the driver seat, but it blew when i forded water, so i mounted it on the back of the rear seat to have it fly off when i was wheeling..so for now it's attached to my box. I like that idea of using the cargo area...and have still debating if i could get the bass i wanted out of it. If it were me, i'd upgrade the mids and tweets, and kick a sub.

The cool thing about where the stock jack area under the rear seats, is that if you don't use it for anything, that's a great place to hide an amp.

What color is your interior?

I have a tan Q-logic, with a JL 10w3 and a JL 250/1 amp collecting dust. It did it's job when it was used.

I guess I'll put a few details in, the amp runs very cool and actually had it under the rear seat where the jack is (never had an issue, and I do like it loud). The box fits in the passenger side, but I'm not sure if the 96'-98' box fits in the 99'-02' interior the same.

I like my simple 10" MTX since it's easy to remove when I need more space or if I sold my Runner and wanted to keep it. I have the amp under the passenger seat and the combo is fine and inexpensive for if you just want solid bass but don't need to ratttle your truck apart.

I have a little self powered Subaru WRX Sub under my drivers seat. It's not KILLER BASS but it does add some nice sound. That, the Alpine and the Focals in the doors

I've had the kenwood woox installed and thought that would be enough but after awhile it didnt fit the bill. So now I am going to replace all my speakers with polk stuff since my buddy can get a good deal on them. Does anyone know the sizing and depth so I can just drop in a new one. I would prefer not to fab things as I am very limited on tools. Thanks!
