the stock panels are just holding the grills .. the speakers are mounted to a frame i made then used some rivets to mount them to the sheetmetal.

heres the washer removed.

But I don't have the SR5 and I have heard the seats are bigger and more pillowy in the SR5 when compared to the DLX so there might not be as much space.

I saw your install, which looks great by the way, when I was deciding where to put my speakers and I wanted to do it that way so it looked even more stock. Especially since I park on the street in Baltimore on occasion, and the heroin junkies will knock out a window for a handful of change. God help you if you have expensive looking stuff not bolted down. But because I already had the speakers which are 6 3/4 and they are too big to sit behind the panel I had to top mount them and use the grills from the speakers. I guess I got lucky and the combo I have works, also possibly in part because the grills are pretty thin on my speakers.

so i finally got the panels done , and man well worth the work , the sound is so much better even thou i still need to hook up the 5 channel amp i got , the only problem i ran into was i drilled one of holes the rivets goes into a little to big so the rivet popped out when i was tightening it so i need to find out what the next size rivet is and get it inserted , but the panels are on pretty solid and the sound is amazing !!! great write up cameron110 and thanks for some of the info you provided me with .

Looks great

Glad to hear the info helped. I was going to do door speakers as well but I find that with a quality replacement for the 4" in the dash and the nice big speakers behind that I am not lacking for sound quality so I probably won't ever bother.

I believe im going to do this with my 88 4runner I love how clean it looks and the rigidity of it. it sure is better than the old panels but you can always go back if you don't like it. I love the idea about the speakers right there. I have mine in the back plastic ones where the roll bar is but the plastic is brittle after the years of sun damage. and do you have any pics of the back panels that you fabed up?? if you did those

Same here. Clean install. My speakers are in same approximate location. Robust mounting but not mounted as cleanly as this. They'll stay that way until I'm done with more functional upgrades.

Only thing I did to the cargo area panels was paint them , but just finishing up putting back my whole dash area , got the dash pad warped in suede leather along with the gauge cluster trim piece and painting the rest of entire plastic trim pieces satin black it was a lot of work but should look nice once I'm done I'll post some pictures later.
