Search query strings

Search results (the resulting URL) are tied to the user performing the search.

In the F116 forum (86-95 Toyota Trucks), waskillywabbit and I have determined that search results are tied to the username performing the search, so posting a search result URL in the forum causes the search results to be inaccessible by any user other than the one who performed the search query.

We determined this by having him log into the forum as me and retrieving the link I posted in his browser. He was unable to get any results when logged in as hisself but got the proper results when logged in as me.
This rules out a cookie issue due to being at different computers with different IP addresses.
It appears to be a server caching / viewstate / DB issue, possibly relating to keeping the query string private to the user which performed the query.

Took me a bit, but I understood what he meant.

If I search for "giant juicy jiggly kickballs" and then copy and paste the link to the search results, only I will be able to access those search results given by that exact link.

As it stands, you would have to tell a person what search terms to use, and how far down the page to look.

Incidentally, you COULD post the actual thread links, but you would have to copy and paste them individually.

well...

how about this:
being logged in- search for something... say "zuk mod" (which I have as "http://www.yotatech.com/search.php?searchid=5863554") but don't use my link, use your link.
then copy that link to the clip board, log out, then paste that into your address bar.
You'll get a 'no results' response even though you got lots of results before.

your "searchid" part of the query string will likely be different than mine
but regardless of using IE, Firefox or Opera, if I log in as me, I can use that search ID and get the results I was searching for, but anyone else won't get them.
And wabbit and I figured out that it's not a 'cookie' issue because I gave him my userid and password (since changed) and he got my results after logging in as me.

This is a known bug/flaw I bet with VB software, and I have done the same on other VB forums as well.
