Poll: Yotatech Classifieds-Keep new rule about having Item, price & location in title
OK Yotatechies:
we have tried a new deal with the classifieds about having the classifieds thread titles look something like this:
1985 4runner, $5500, Timbuktu, BFE
some members have seen the updated rules and the stickies reflecting this but a lot have not seen it .
here is your chance to have your say, keep it, axe it or what.
please keep your comments civil.
If we get rid of this requirement of the basics in the thread title posts will still need to have the long established basics in the body:
Item Description: 1985 4Runner
Price: $5500
Location: Timbuktu, BFE
contact info:
Poll will run for 17 days...whatever you, the members decide is how we will form the rules

Best new idea/ change I've seen on the site in years. It's not complicated, and helps a lot when browsing classifieds. Whenever I put something up for sale, I will do it just like that. But I think instead of a city (unless its a huge city ) maybe just the region. I don't live in a major city, and would probably have lots of people skip over my add because they don't know where Middletown,CA is.

The only problem I see with it is the price. What if it changes to a lower amount? Then the title is contridictive with the actual price. That being said, I don't beleive its a huge deal and most will be able to overcome this by reading the actual thread. There is not a perfect way to do it that will satisify everyone or every situtation. Sometimes you just have to do and let everyone adapt.

What is the feel so far?
I kind of like it, it makes it easier to browse a section and see what state the product is in.
As far as a price drop, you can PM a moderator to change the price for you, or I can see if I can change permissions so a thread title can be changed in the classifieds.

also, where you have the "wtt, wtb, wts" drop-down list, it'd be helpful to have a "sold" option, editable, along with a box for price. that way, part & location will stay the same, but you could change price and state of item in the title
example:
Want to Sell: $5500, 1985 4runner, Timbuktu
could become:
Want to Sell: $4500, 1985 4runner, Timbuktu
eventually to:
SOLD: $4500, 1985 4runner, Timbuktu
another option is to have a reminder above the title text box ("Item, Price, Description"). just some text would suffice
my two cents.

i think the what, where, how much, thing should be mandatory in the title.. i also agree with irab88, the price and availibility should be updatable.

Well... Sure this rule works for selling a vehicle or a single item, because you're only selling ONE thing. but what if you have a bunch of items? are we required to make an individual thread for EACH item and cloud up the "new posts" and exploded our threads created and posts? I think its just more headache than its really thought out to be. I like the WTB, WTS, SOLD, idea, i think thats pretty cool. but yeah. thats my .02

I just checked the permissions for different user groups here, and I am not seeing a way to change the title.
I know I can do this over at expedition portal by just double clicking the thread title when I see one of my threads in the "New Posts" listing.
They are running the latest version of VB though, so that might be it, unless I am missing the area where to set this at.
But I looked at the perms for the classifieds for the user groups, and I did not see the option to change your thread title there.
If I can find it later, there are just two groups to change:

if you have multiple items, post it in the title. as they sale make an update of your first post.. kinda like.
PS pump
SOLD
you just cant be lazy and make sure you list all the parts you have for sale.
as for getting your thread deleted because you forgot, try paying more attention. but if you make a mistake contact a staff member and ask for the change.

I don't think the price needs to be listed in the title...
Item and location def.
ie... Misc. Parts for sale, Southern Ontario (any town)...
or... 1998 4Runner for sale, Northern WV. [any town]...
Then list the price(s) in the description... that way the OP can change the prices as needed or take the sold items off the listing themselves by editing their own post...
saves work for the mods and gives the seller immediate control of their sale listing.
If you list the location as above it makes things easier for folks not familiar with the seller's location to decide if it is worth their while to contact the seller about the item in question...
