How about a real-time chat server?
So that YT users can chat?
Could be JS or even AJAX based.
Maybe channels corresponding to each forum?

We had a similar situation on anouther board I was on (GoNintendo) where no one used the website based chat. Finally a forum member gave up on the java chat and decided to create an IRC room for forum members to enjoy. Suddenly a splurge of people used the service. Eventually a web based IRC client (This One) for the more technically challenged members to acess the service.

By useing an IRC client it was easy for people who always have their computors on to always be in the chat (even when not there)

It is listed in the "Helpful Links" at the top of each page too.

Also on the main forum page below where it shows "total members who have visited the site today", is the text below.
Members currently using Flashchat: 0
You can click the down arrow for it and see in real time who is chatting.

The Flash Chat applet we use here is very good too, it works great.
