So today we got a torch and finished off the rest of the IFS crap.
Truck prepares to be rid of it once and for all:

Dad torching it up

The finished product:

I can see I'm going to spend some quality time with the grinder...
Anyone want any "slightly used" IFS bracketry?

Tomorrow will be a day of grinding, and (hopefully) getting to work on that front axle. She's lookin good!!

So today we got the frame nice and smooth. That involved some quality time spent with the grinder and sawzall. Now for the pics:

So now the yota is back on the ground, only this time the front end is a little different

Enjoy!

Thanks guys. So far everything has gone great. We still have a list of things to do though:
-rebuild axle
-install third member
-install steering (waiting for parts)
-install brake lines/bleed the brakes
-shock hoops need to be welded on
-motor mount plates need to be welded on
-front driveshaft needs to be made (or re-use IFS driveshaft)
And a few other small things, but the biggest part of it is done. I gotta go back to school tomorrow for a couple of exams Monday, so as soon as I get that done, we'll get back to work on it. Should be ready to go soon!

Curious what it's costing you so far? Is this just you and your dad doing all the work?
Great work so far. I'm surprized how fast it's coming along also.

So far its probably right around two grand. We've done everything except the welding on the spring hangers (never really welded before, so I don't trust myself on something like that). The kit was I believe $1395, the axle was a few hundred, and the third member (brand new with a TruTrac), was I believe around 800. I think Marlin has lowered the price since a couple of weeks ago when we ordered everything, so you may want to check out their website.

So today we pretty much finished up our SAS. The front axle was rebuilt, and all welding was finished. Still a small list though:
-Front end alignment needs adjusting
-Extended brake lines need to be put on/brakes need to be bled/new pads
-A front drive shaft would be useful
-Need a place to mount the tranny cooler
Here are a few pics:

Dad had the clever idea to use the tab already on the frame to mount the steering stabilizer:

And he also had the idea to weld a bolt to the top of the frame to remount the brake line bracket:

We took the first test drive, and it went very well. Here are some poser shots:

Can't wait to try it on the trail!

Looks good!

IMO, you need to brace those shock hoops something like this:

haha...yeah it didn't take but a little less than a week. that was working pretty solid every day though. as for those shock hoops, we looked at bracing them, and that would probably be a good idea, but there are two runs of welds on them, and you can grab ahold of them and rock the whole truck. they're as solid as can be. if need be, we'll add braces. btw waskilly...have you ever had trouble with your drag link hitting the connecting rod? ours is awfully close. thanks!

Just remember, you are going to abuse this truck's suspension wheeling...and that is a HUGE moment arm on the frame in those spots where you have the shock hoops welded on...frame is only like 2-3 mm thick...and the bracing cuts that moment arm down significantly. I'd be proactive and brace, not reactive and repair when they bend/brake the frame in that spot. Just my pennies, since it would take so little effort to brace the hoops.

Nope, never had any trouble w/ the drag link hitting the tie rod. I'm sure there are some pics on my website under the "front axle" buildup. I have the AP high steer kit. Did you move your box as far forward as possible?

You probably need a flat pitman arm or a 3/4" less drop arm since your ifs box is in the stock location.
www.sky-manufacturing.com and OTC sells them.
