PICS- Swapping battery and airbox.

Seen this mod on here and since I didn't like the stock locations and setup anyways, SWAP IT. Had a brand new battery to use, of course it was bigger so I had to do a little more modification. Hard to see in the pic but I notched out a small section and made a corner for the tray to fit in.

Then of course built the tray. Since it does take up a bit more room decided to make it removable in case it was in the way of anything. Uses the old mounting points of the airbox.

Here's a couple pics of it in place.

Made up some new cables and the intake pieces are on the way. I'll take pics and post them up as I go.

Nice fab work.. but may I ask why you don't like the stock setup?

I want to do it because the air has to travel sooo far stock and heats up so much more going over the radiator. It may not be a HUGE diff. in temp but any little bit will help with these 22RE motors.

That and its always fun to mod stuff.

Exactly, it was the whole air route thing but also the electrical. Putting in a 130 amp alternator so wanted the shortest path possible, wasn't hard to make up new cables for everything. HUGE improvement over the stock stuff. That and I had a "know it all" type stop by the shop who said it wouldn't work- that usually does it for me.

Some more progress. Gotta pickup a piece of tube, pretty short one at that.

But I made a bracket to hold the AFM, cut a hole in the fender to get the filter sucking more cooler air.

Can't really see it in the pic but there's a stainless steel splash shiled in the inner fender to prevent water from hitting the air filter, eventhough the fender liner is still intact.

Post up some pics of the wiring soon.

Well it's welded in, which meant cutting, grinding, painting.... But it was in good shape, no rust or anything plus it does add some structural rigidity to that area so figured I'd just leave it.

Best battery tray swap I've seen yet. I need to relocate the battery for my 3.4 swap and have been going back and forth on the best way to do it. I'm going to fab one up like yours. The removability factor is nice, along with utilizing the airbox mounts. Nice job.

Finally got the runner mobile last night. Still have to do some tuning/tweaking but very happy with the setup. With the Thorley header, Engnbldr 268 cam, b&b injectors, some porting... it runs a lot smoother and has noticeably more power.

Daughter happy I got it done finally!
