Pickup tailgate on 1st gen 4runner

why not just pull the glass, motor and wiring and put a tailgate cap on it? it would be cheaper and it would save you from having to basically bob your 4Runner (unless that is what you want to do) and grafting the back portion of a pick up bed on to your truck:

I recall Jon Bundrant at All Pro Offroad did this on his old 4Runner. Need to cut the rear end off the bed of the pickup then graft those bed corners to the cut off bed on the 4Runner in order to get the pickup tailgate hinges and hardware.

I have a pickup gate that I plan on putting on my first gen runner, I plan on using the mounting points for the current hinges to bolt a cross bar to that holds the pickup hinges, and was planning on using the latching mechanism from the runner gate and welding them to the back of the pick up gate.
