My $65 4Runner Bikini Top

I've had several PM's from people wanting to know about my top. I got the top from TPI, a landcruiser supplier, it's a top for a fj40. The only mod I did to the top was to have the rear straps shortened 10". I went to Lowe's and got a stick of conduit and a 1" by 1/8" by 8' piece of aluminum flat bar. I bent the flat bar to the curve of the cab/top. Some of the extra was cut and bent to make the 4 bolt brackets.

I bent the conduit, drilled holes at each end and wiped it down with lacquer thinner and painted it black. I got a 1" wide velcro strip to help support it in the middle.

The footman ,loops which came with the top, were mounted at the back corners.

Thanks Internetroadkill, I couldn't find the little catalog they sent me. The top I used is the $45 one, the "family" top is too long.

Focushere, the top didn't come with anything to mount to the cab, just footman loops at the rear. I made the metal "band" and angle braces to pinch the top against the cab. The top has a wand sewn on that end to slide into a track. I just pushed that thicker part below the metal band to pinch it against the weatherstriping.

Could you take some more detailed photos of how you attached it to the cab, and the parts you used when you do take some pics? Nice work!

I bent the flat bar against an extra top I have that I have cut out the side windows. I layed the metal on top of the fiberglass top and bent it against tapping with a hammer. I don't remember how long the conduit was, I filled it with sand and taped the ends (no pipe bender) and bent it and cut the extra off.

OK, more pics. First, this is the dumbass way I came up with last year to hold the top to the cab. I cut a 2x6 to work.

Then I was looking at some pics showing how a CanBack top mounted and got the idea to use the metal. It's alot easier to mount.

Yes, it has a round bendable wand sewn in the front edge. You can see it in the first close up shot of the aluminum flat bar.

well just an idea.......
i went to a local upolster shop and the have this sweet peice of aluminum like you have bent there but laying flat aggainst the truck you would have to drill you some holes but it has like a small "pipe" welded on that that peice might slide into then it has a opening on top across the whole bar so it can fold back does that make since?
