Installing a 1st gen rollbar in a 2nd gen
I scored a 1st gen 4runner rollbar today at Pick-a-part....it was 1/2 price day and I got it for $23.00
What is the magic number for inches to cut off?? I know on the 3rd gens it is 2 inches..is is the same with 2nd gens?? Slosurfer?? I am going to have a busy summer with the E-locker and rollbar. ![]() ![]()

I don't know what it is for the 2nd gen but you could just test fit it and see about how much you need to cut it down and keep a little more than you think you need just incase. Good luck man I love mine.

Measure the distance difference between the mounting points on the roll bar.
Measure the distance difference between mounting surfaces for the roll bar in your cargo area. Subtract an inch and start cutting/trimming there, as it is easier to trim off more, not so easy to add more, just don't forget to add in the thickness of the mounting plates, carpet, padding etc if there is going to be anything between the roll bar mounting plates and the cargo sheet metal. You will probably want to angle the front mounting plates as the tops of the fenders wells slope inwards, at least on a 3rd gen they do. ![]()

Marc, I wish I had one of these! Sorry I couldn't help! The yards around here suck. Nice score.

When/If you find out the "right" amount, let us know... I've been pondering this for awhile.

b/c it looks awesome!, i cant wait for warmer weather to put mine in my 90, not really a saftey mod, seeing how it is bolted to the floor, but it does serve it's purpose as a place to mount stuff and like i said, it looks awesome!

I would love one to mount a CO2 bottle, big fire extinguisher and Hi-Lift on, then slide a box in the middle with other goodies.

You were getting ready to leave Big Bear when me and Eric were talking about mounting one in mine as a place to mount co2 bottles.

I started with 2" front and back, and I think after fitting 2 1/2" front 2 1/4" rear. Unlike the 3rd gens you won't be able to slide it in, I had to remove a side window to angle it in place. There's a couple good threads here you can find with this really cool button "search". good luck on your install.

Once it is cut to fit, you can get it in there without removing the window... I did mine (it was tight) I had to remobe the upper seatbelt strap bolt on bothsides and it was a pain but eventually twisted it into place... I'll try to measure it for you in the morning.... And I'll attach pictures

Easy but time consuming way. Cut it close on one side. Temporarily bolt that side to the floor the way you want it or close.Stick the other side in there close and make an eyeball mark where to begin cutting. After a couple of test fits when you have it right, take it out, square it up and weld it. Then mount and start hanging accessories on it.

When I got mine installed, it seemed like an inch would do on the rear legs and maybe 2.5" on the front legs... I told the guy this and yet the idiot cut off about 5 inches from the front and none on the back... we had to extend the front legs with thicker and wider diameter tubing. I wanted the rear legs to be cut so the bar wouldn't rub on the plastic interior siding. It's a REALLY tight fit in there, and I doubt I could get the thing out. He welded the extensions on with the rollbar inside the truck so...
