It doesn't have a Solid axle up front, so it probably doesn't need all the body mounts either.

I just don't understand the point......... 1" square tubing and now some 3/8" bar stock. Attached to the stock bumper in a couple spots, some "funny angles" (Snatch reference) and its supposed to be badass?

I will say though that the light guards you threw on there will hold off some mean rose bushes and tall grass.

Are you going to wrap it in some 2" tubing? Or is this just a mock-up of what the real bumper is going to be?

If not, then the trash talking continues.

i think all that people are tryin to say is that generaly you do not see that grade and size and style of metal for armor.. mainly because it does not hold up well to abuse, when it comes to armoring your rig just throwing steel at it and saying its strong enough, really isnt enough. it takes a bit of R&D. there are alot of guys and gals on here that are some pretty hardcore wheelers and know what works and what dont. there is a reason that people spend the money on high strengh tube and get it tig welded. now i understand that not every one can come up with the $$$ for that nice tube or have the abilities to TIG... but really from the looks of the bumper and sliders you might wish you would have done something different if you do have a hard contact on them. but as the old saying goes... To each his own... hope i didnt step on any toes or irratated anyone

Not at all man. I'm a high school student and that's my main focus. I have a 110v Miller. The steps are actually pretty strong and can hold the weight of the truck. I don't do that serious of wheeling that I need armor, I don't have a solid axle. When and if I put on a solid axle I'll probably have the funds for a higher volt welder, tube bender, bandsaw etc. so the work will be easier and the parts more suited for hardcore wheeling, which I don't do yet.

What does a solid axle have anything to do with it???????? You put what looks to be 37's on your truck with the suspension you've got. It actually looks fairly nice til you throw some afterthought crap on the front bumper. You took a decent looking truck and turned it into something that I would INSTANTLY make fun of if I saw it in person! Who cares if its a street driving vehicle or not. Throwing a FUGLY "grill guard" on it welded onto the stock bumper made out of material thats actually weaker than the stock stuff just blows my mind.

It looks better and more trail worthy with no bumper on it. Honestly... cut it off and try again.

Can you do any better?... if so please post some pics of your work. If not you can keep being a little b i t c h because it seems to be all you're good at, what are half of your posts just talking smack? You've proven nothing except you're mouth is big.

And regarding "stock materials are stronger", you obviously are very disillusioned.

No, I'm going to make a attatchment to the stock bumper mounting location using 3/16" angle iron and 1.5" square tube. Many other pieces but as of yet no it isn't done.

You guys are a bunch of 's

Just a few points of interest

1. Front end looks good
2. Blocks aren't going to win you praise around here...
3. Your rear shock tabs leave alot to be desired...make them more like this or just buy them http://www.marlincrawler.com/suspens...le-shock-mount
4. Those "sliders" need alot more reinforcement, and what is that small piece of rod on there doing?
5. Where's your rear bumpstops?
6. What exactly to you plan to accomplish with this bumper? Just for looks, or protection? If the latter...time to go back to the drawing board.
7. Missing body mount (front pass. side)?

HOLY SQUARE TUBE BATMAN!

I hate to laugh at people but you need to redo that grille guard. At least take some pride in your truck and grind down the welds so it looks clean. IMO using the stock bumper as a base isn't a good idea even if you dont do any hardcore wheeling. Other than that props on trying to do something new.

Well, in his defence the bumper is still in progress. so lets just ease up and see what happens. I give him credit for attempting his own work.

Sorry no updates, finals week, yes my school is wack the semester didn't end yet, this is the last week.

I will fix the body mount and shock tabs, the shock mounts were done to just get them on there, mistake I now know.

The only reason I used the stock bumper is so you wouldn't see the body behind it. There is still lots of reinforcement to come, specifically four more mounts to the frame, 1/8" and 3/16" steel plating and the welds will be ground down.

Like was recognized this thing is just beginning. I'm not a professional fabricator so it's not going to look badass right away. Anyway I'm off the soapbox, there will be more progress this weekend.

Thanks man. Of course I did get a little childish too. And it is a good learning experience in fabrication all around, not that I'm going to be one but it's a fun hobby.

Jeez people, it's really not that hard to get a long. Especially here.

Btw Mic09dcsm, keep up the good work man, you should think about a heavier more sturdy front end if you want it thold up to a bashing, but I applaud your effort and ambition. I was the same way in highschool, so were my buds and without this experience, we would of never gotten to where we are. Keep persueing your stuff man, and don't take the bullsh i t criticism personally.

Cheers!

Hey everybody one of your friendly neighbourhood moderators here...

whew! a whole lotta hatin' and a flamin' goin' on here... I had to do a whole heap of editing to clean this mess up... lol
I remind you all of rule #2 quoted above...

I'll toss in my 0.02 on the build now if I may...
the OP said at the outset that they were side step/wannabe sliders not sliders or body armour so if they work for him and look good to him great.

The stinger up front looks like the genesis of a good design and while it may not be "Baja ready" now I say lets relax and see where it goes. It does appear though to be tabbed in under the hood to the top of the rad mount, if this is the case you may want to rethink that Mic since any hit may tweak the rad mount and or crumple the hood edge.

On the apparently missing body mount that really is something you should address if it is in fact missing. I don't know the laws in Cali. but up here they will take your truck off the road on the spot literally if a cop/transport inspector sees it like that.

Everybody seems to use round stock for their stinger bumpers and so on... nice idea going your own way with the square stock. Keep working on your welding skills.
