flat bed build

alright i searched on how to do this but couldn't really find anything on making a custom flat bed for a 2001 tacoma. i have found alot of stuff on older taco's with flat beds but not on the newer ones. what i wanted to do was make a custom flat bed that could be removed and place the orig. bed back on if i wanted to. i guess i will have to tech write my progress when i start building if i still cant find anything. if any of you guys know of someone who has done this on a new taco that would be great. oh well customization is half the battle right?

Check with Jeff @ Badland Bumpers North of you.
http://www.badlandbumpers.com/index_files/page0001.htm

I have seen his flat beds in person, and they look nice.

He works on a variety of Toyotas, and may have a kit for a Tacoma.

If you do your own, it would be great to submit a write-up to me for the Tech Section.

Also I bet Mike (Crash) is into making them.
I have to hunt for his site, be back later...

My flat bed is old school and made out of square tubing, and I don't have a Tacoma, but the basics are all the same.

Mine bolts on using the factory body mounts, so a regular bed could be put back on if I ever wanted to.

Here one that I put on my 85, kinda like allpro's kit. I didn't get it completely finished before I sold it, but they might give you some ideas. Also has room for 2!

Here is a picture of the flatbed I used to have on my truck. It liked it, was very functional, and I LOVED the extra storage box I built into the rear. I ended up selling it for way less than what it was worth, I tubed the rear of my truck to lose some weight.

Here are some pics of the bed I put on my '85. I went a little wider and longer to cover the 35's and to give me more room, since it was used as a farm truck. The tires tucked under and never touched the bed during flex. It worked great for me. I miss it now, since I have sold the truck. I used some 1 1/2" square tube for the basic frame.

SWEET!!

I thought I was the only one with the ultimate bitch seat idea!!
It could help drive down the prices of 4Runners too!
Have to give it a long soft top so they dont complain TOO much . . . or they could make good use of the bottle opener and forget about it . . .
