Diamond Plate Center Console Build

I did it for my senior project. Kinda slacked on pictures a little though

Before:

Beginning fab:

Hard to tell but there is a rectangle knob welded to the top of the bar so that my old door will click in nicely

Had to paint it in "The Man Room" cause it was too cold in the garage. (windows were open with fans going)

Here she is finished:
(without switches installed)

(with swithes installed)

(Left to right)Back window wipers, Aux lights, Up/Down for back window

Twice the capacity with half the organization ability. Still dont think i would have done it differently though

looks good man, i like how u can put stuff down by the shifters now too (although that would just end up full of pennies and taco bell receipts for me, lol). Might get a little warm in the summer though

looks real good! My only concerns would be the, already mentioned, heat and the cupholders!

Hmm... You built one too?

I saw yours then wanted to build my own.
I was told that the aluminum wouldnt get too hot though. Im sure it'll get hot but will it get as hot as my seatbelt for example

Its not terrible. Mine is a bit painful because my knee rests against it, so I have to put something between my knee and the console. I suppose if it was all that bad I would have dug up a hood insulating pad anf lay it over the top of the trans, like Ive been meaning to.

Looks good... I'd be concerned about the heat thing and the edges maybe cutting up the seats as folks adjust the seat to their liking... that and the lack of a cup holder lol... looks very robust... if you were to attach the armrest to a more secure lid you could use it as a mobile gun safe almost...

1) ya its a pretty tight fit but as far a sliding the seats back an forth it doesnt scrap until people lean torwards it. i'll file the edges a little smoother one of these days

2) ya i was thinking about making a diamond plate lid with a lock on it but im scared it would be hotter than heck an i would not even be able to use it as an arm rest

Just use the four phillips screws that attach the latch and hinge to attach the diamond plate to the cushion it would be almost exactly what you have now... If heat is still a concern spray the plate with some 3m adhesive and wrap it with some brown vinyl or cloth first.

hmm i dont really want there to be plate sticking out farther that the armrest already is so here is what im thinking. Basically have 2 doors. 1 is the paded door. under neath that have the plate with the lock. on end of that same plate make a notch that the latch clicks in to. id have to remove the old one but no biggie. an i could use the latch from the other compartment on the old console so it opens an closes normally when it not locked...

did that make any sense?
