Custom homemade roof rack. Tell me what you think.

This is a roof rack i made a couple weeks ago and i think it is pretty awesome just wondering what everyone else thinks.

This is a pic of it from the side.

This is the front of the rack.

This is how i have the tire mounted up there.

This is a pic of the top of it.

tested out the stock IFS flex, or lack thereof today also thought i would include the pic. Tell me what you all think.

nice work, but it kinda looks like it's on backwards with the tall part at the front

(I was gonna blast you at first for attaching the spare with bungees till I saw the bolt running through it )

Yeah i know it kinda looks backwards but i liked it that way because it matches the lines of the decals. Also i kind of think it makes it look like i am moving fast. it would be more aerodynamic the other way.

As for my tire connection it looks like it is only being held down by the net from every angle but right ontop or inside looking through the sun roof. I actually had a cop come up to me in a parking lot because he was worried that it was just held up there by a bungie net. I also drilled through the bolt and put a small padlock through it so it won't get stolen.

Ya know, I was looking at your IFS flex pics and discovered that if you squint just a little, your licence plate says "GIRLY".

that is what I was thinking, looks like some shelving brackets...but it works..

You need to flip it around 180* so that the thin part it up front, IMO it looks like crap the way you have it with the wide side towards the front. other than than it works...

edit: also i would put some nylon lock nuts on those u-bolts, or at least some lock washers though I know you already cut the u bolts off flush...

What is that, that you used for the flooring material...some sort of fencing/kenel matarial?? I'm looking at building one for my 4-runner.

I like it by the way..Might want to move the tire to the bed (or under it) so you can use your rack to carry more stuff you would need to get to more often then a spare.

The racking is actually pallet rack decking that I got from my work and is relatively cheap if you can find a section. I like it because it has the three support pieces going acrossed it which makes for a really sturdy rack. The side rails are actually pieces from a Under Armor display rack that was left in storage at my dad's warehouse. The rack in all cost me less than twenty and that was just for all of the hardware. With a little ingenuity and some patients finding materials a lot can be done for real cheap.
