Custom 3rd Gen Gas Tank

Wellllll Welll Welll--In my quest to go 4 link triagulated rear on my 3rd gen--i knew i needed to move the gas tank. Decided to put spare on bumper and tank where spare used to be....

OK--design tank--It is 33" wide 22" long and Slopes from 6" to 10" on the bottom (Approach Angle). I will reuse the old Pump and sending unit. Taking into account that i may need to do some fabbing to it.

Then found that i couldn't mount the tank until i built me a bumper because some brackets were in the way--Pulling trigger there--BUT I want it to be a Steel/Aluminum hybrid. Figured Steel C-channel to Frame--> Then bolt to aluminum bumper body-->then bolt in Steel Hitch reciever. THe Alum will not be tapped but drilled and bolts will go through.

any input on this? Ideas? Suggestions? Anybody built a rear aluminum bumper?

kinda similar--but i think i will fab the brackets connecting to the frame out of steel and have plates at the ends--then fab alum bumper body and sides. Mount the Receiver hitch into the Alum with Steel Plates......

Yep...thats what i am doing. show you guys pics once i am done

you know that one rear spring is taller than the other so your car will probably lean and its going to be way more weight in the rear of you runner so more heavy load springs may be in order...

already lifted and the extra weight would be welcomed.

Are you running 35's or something larger?

I will post pics tonight--but the basic tank is complete and has been sealed with POR-15 Tank sealer. I have to tell you that stuff is something else.
Put it on a hammer and banged it againt the concrete--stuff laughed at me.

Anyways here are the Dimensions of the tank (33x22--and then 1 end is at 6" and the other at 10". That gives me 25 gallons.

OK-so needed some 3/16 steel to make my tank sending unit, Filler neck, and expansion valve mounting plates. Go to Lowes--no 3/16" only 1/4"--ok--ok i will get it ---HOLY CRUD--12"x12" ($30 Bones). My bottom hurt a little after that.

bought some Hole saws and started going to town--I bought the wrong ones--they were the wood type--DOH!! Would cut to about an 8th of an inch and then just stop. To top it off i had to go and buy a chop saw to cut the steel plate. I am not to far away from having a complete shop full of tools--just need a bigger garage, welder and drill press and i am there...

I also have to modify the Fuel sending unit/fuel pump holding bracket. going to take off the bracket and twist it so the pickup is at the absolute deepest spot on the tank.

As it stands i am at a little bit of a stand still until I can get my holes drilled or cut in my 1/4 plate.

I will keep y'all posted

didnt see your post 4Runner--i was just curious because your truck looks Sharp. Thats it.

As for the coils--mines are pretty stiff and only after a pretty decent load do they start to smooth out a bit.
