Oh, I just used the E-Light max script.

All defaults. Don't know much about the lighting, texturing, and well a lot more.

I remember the days of the E-light.

It's ok for displaying a model, but not very pratical, in my opinion. Read up on Mental Ray--it's included with Max now. You can get some very nice GI effects using MR's Global Illumination and Final Gathering. The downside is, depending on your machine, renders will begin to take a lot longer. Although still quite a bit faster than using Max's built in Light Tracer plugin.

If you ever start messing around with Mental Ray, let me know. I can probably help you get started on a fairly decent lighting setup.

Or if you get V-ray I can show you a few things with that too.

Yea I really wanted to mess with metal ray but at the time, I didn't have time. When I get back on the model I will be askin for sure.

Here's a sample scene I did probably a year ago, just playing around with Mental Ray and GI.

It's the inside of my apartment, built to scale, minus all the furniture and stuff. I was more interested in getting a decent GI simulation that didn't eat up system resources and take hours to render. Don't remeber if I was using Final Gathering or not...

I forget the render times on this, but it was less than 5 min. It's a basic GI setup, with a few tweaked settings and some shader adjustments. It's not finished, and it never will be. I've only put a couple hours into this, and that's as far as it will ever get.

very cool man. The possibilities for use in pre-fab & modification are incredible! Great work.

This is unbeleivably cool. Fantastic work, I may have to learn to do some tutorials myself, I'd love to try this out with the Taco's as well. Thanks for the inspiration.

There is a taco model floating on the net for free. But it's like a 96 model I think, not 04.

This is the one I've got. I don't remember where it came from, but it was a free download. If anyone wants it, let me know.

The mesh on it is pretty bad, but I guess that's to be expected from a .3ds... and being free.

materials aren't that great either. Just for the hell of it, I threw on a metallic red to see what would happen... it's no portfolio piece... lol

That is the one I was refering to.

Couple of years ago when I was trying to learn rhino 3d I used it to look at a roof rack and bumper that I was playing with.

I borrowed the head lights and tire from the truck

Thats a 92-95 Truck. Tacomas never came with a wing window, or those style mirrors. The reason I say 92-95 is the front bumper is smooth unlike the early style (89-91) trucks that had a 3 piece front bumper.

But all that 3D stuff is really neat. I wish I could figure out how to do that.

The renderings are great for fun but I personally don't see much use in them unless they are exact dimensions and can be used for 3-D modeling such as CATIA, Solidworks, or Pro-E...

Props on the skills though, I could never get those lofts right in Solidworks...
