1994 4runner side steps

I am going to be fabbing up some side steps, i want them to be attached to the frame so they can provide some armor for the body, but also to be usable as steps for all my short friends to get in
any ideas? anything i should stay away from doing?
any input at all would be great

I made mine out of some 1 3/4" pipe. I've heard people bash on it but mine have been hit pretty hard and the only damage was some of the rattle can paint scratched off the pipe. Looking for sliders is overall your best bet but if you want something cost effective and aren't scared to weld to your frame the pipe works great
