1980 LWB Pickup Build

Well its time for a new project now that my 4Runner is where I want it to be (For Now). Its the DD/Tow Rig and has to last a while so Im starting a trail rig buildup.

The idea is to build a somewhat budget rig that I can wheel and slowly build up over the coming months.

I got it back in February with a blown motor. Got a used 20r from BJACK and dropped it in before the April Fools Day Crawl @ Harlan, KY. Since then its been a stock beater that has gone through a lot of skinny pedals.

Right now its a 1980 Long Wheel Base Longbed Pickup.
Bobbed Bed and Frame
Narrowed/De-Fendered Front
Bone Stock Suspension

It began its life as a tan truck but I got bored one day and wanted to paint it dark grey...welllll...wal mart sucks at labling spray cans so I accidentally got cans of chrome "ALUMINUM GREY" paint and went with it. Its not supposed to be pretty but whatever.

Aluminum Chrome and whatnot!

Aluminum Chrome and whatnot!

Stripped Carpet, painted black and some of my old floormats i donated to the cause.

Really quick black painted interior (then it began to rain)

Tail Lights In...smashed the stockers out on Mason Jar @ Harlan back in April

Coming Soon:
Dual trannies courtesy of SAS'dToy's old trail rig
33" TSL's in front with Boggers in the rear

After this will come:
Cage work
Aussie Front Locker
F350 Shock Towers
63" Chevy's in back
Stock Rears in the front
Propane

That will be a fun rig. You will like the LWB. I am really happy I have the extra wheelbase. More stable and great for the steep inclines.

One suggestion for the build, keep the weight centered and the rear of the truck light.

I wheel with a guy who has the twin of that truck, bobbed bed and all. He's running it with no tailgate right now. He's got 33's with those 4.38s that year came with. Check these vids to see it in action.

Thanks for the comments guys. Shes seasoned...for now its been a flagrant disregard for body damage and a love of the skinny pedal.

Im going to be putting the doors back on but half dooring them and welding them shut. The truck should be down at SAS'edToy's shop tomorrow night. Not sure when we will get around to doing the tranny install.

Im loving the extra wheelbase so far. Its helped a bunch.

Im going to be keeping her low and slow with a lot of droop in the suspension.

Other than that hideous color it looks like a great project. X2 on the tailgate mod.

I might be getting changed again...I get bored and start spraying things.

Tailgate was modded by a .50cal Desert Eagle...hence its original nickname "The Desert Eagle" when it was painted tan.

Check this out for your next go at it. Sounds like quality alternative to either a rattlecan or expensive paint job.

It was too rainy today (dont let the pics fool you) to get the trailer out of the field and get the truck down to the shop but I did make some progress...I got new shoes on my ride.

Here comes some pics of the Desert Eagle, Chrome Killa, Bone Shaker or what have you.

I've seen that on my friends truck. It leaves thick, tough paint but will really look ☺☺☺☺ty if you let it drip.

Man...its been over 3 months since ive updated this thread...

Ive wheeled the truck a good bit in stock form since the last update:

- It died severely...short in the wiring harness and I spent a month or so between knee surgery and therapy getting it running again.

- Flopped once

Stretch was on the dirt ledge behind him and the guys pushed him over.

Shawn came to the rescue.

- Broke a Motormount

- Installed Bucket Seats in preparation of todays order with Marlin Crawler.
Off the trailer and at the new house

CHROME KILLZ! So the Cab changed colors again...for now

Had to find the wiring problem...so what better way to access the harness?

New seats and harnesses...

A few things are missing now...

Ah...found the missing parts

Finishing touches on the way to DPG

Black Zack welding up the new seats

Finished

An MC07-R10 Dual Case Adapter is on its way from Marlin Crawler and I will be cutting the tranny tunnel out in prep for the cases and FLATBELLY. Next up will be an Aussie up front or a Cage like the one on the yellow and black truck that pulled me back over
