Ok ive got a decient amount done the worst part of this is definatly the grinding.

Heres 924runnersr5 lending a hand

The rear axle all ready to place

Heres where im at with removing the coil brackets I havent made up my mind on whether im going to remove any more, I might just clean up whats there, I dont think it will be in the way. But ill probably remove the drivers coil pad as well I just hate plasmaing that close to the gas tank

Ive still got a long way to go, this is how my front end sits until I finally get my 3rd back!

I got my front and rear kits, and other little things today, so this should continue to pick up pace.

hey what did you guys do about drive shafts, I havent made up my mind on what to use. I have 4 drive shafts in my garage.

1 front with a cv
1 front with u-joints
1 rear with a cv
1 rear with u-joints

I dont want to use straps, I dont want to make a square shaft, dont care if the front has a vibration bc I wont be using 4wd on the road. I am leaning toward a u-joint rear, and im not sure for the front.

I know ill have to do longer splines. Keep in mind I have the auto and one t-case so my front shaft is pretty short

I did alot of research today and I think that im going to use a cv rear shaft with stock splines and extend the shaft. For the front it looks like a u-joint with a 8" spline kit, and extended.

If any of you swaped coils to leafs in the rear what method did you use to locate the rear axle? Im still not sure how to get the leaf in the right spot so the suspension can properly cycle. Ill probably end up taking apart the leaf and tacking the leaf up and then cyling it to make sure. Then I have to pray the leafs are in the exact same spot on the frame so im not dogalking down the road.

On mine, I used a CV joint on the rear (this will eliminate all the vibrations that the u-joint won't and wouldn't) and an 8" spline on the front w/ the OEM front CV joint.

I had maybe like $100 parts tops going through local sources.

Crickets you say?

Yes, I have a 5spd and after the lift the front was so short it wouldn't even engage the splines...rear would still work but would vibrate like crazy...now all is perfectly smooth onroad and off.

good job man

You won't regret a tough solid axle

there is this very washed out road whooped road and muddy a hell
my friend 91 v6 truck was bottoming out at 23mph tops (w/ torsion bars stiffend)
I could take that section at 50 miles per hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my suspension was bottoming out but it took and I was smiling!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think IFS is good for city driving - softer ride
But if you want to OFF-ROAD solid axle
I

Was wondering how many inches of lift will this add & do you even need to keep the panhard bar?, also what leaf springs did you use? Chevys, yota, etc this is also a mod. I want to do and how did you find the placement of the hangers and shackles in order to keep the thrust angle correct (Did you measure from the rear end of the frame) because I heard if you don't do this right it will throw off the front alignment(if you go to get it done cause they set the front off the rear) & you will wear through tires Quickly(that is if you drive on the street alot).
Pls let me know how this goes cause this mod. is going to be my next project.

Its suposed to be a 4'' kit but im afraid im going to be around 6'' :pat:

with leafs you dont use a panhard , you dont have to use anything (unless your afraid of axle wrap)

Im still working on getting the rearend properly placed. not sure exactlly how ill do it, I cant seem to find people who have done a 4'' marlin rear leaf conversion. but ill keep ya updated.

my dust sheilds are HORRIBLY corroded, and i think im going to eliminate them i know alot of guys have done this. Anyone have an issue with the less 1/8th in. of spacing.

And no i cant just cut the sheilds off the bracket bc the brakets are coming apart.

this drawing seems wrong it shows large metal, cloth, rubber, small metal, as the order of the knuckle seal. but as i assemble these it works perfectly as large metal, cloth, small steel, rubber.

just a heads up for people relying on this diagram or ive missed someting
