I've had my 1990 SR5 V6 5 Speed Standard Cab Short Bed 4x4 since day one Here's a brief history: Put Bilsteins on after about two years Head Gasket at 110k (covered under warranty) New CV joints at 150k (got Aisin manual hubs too - I had fixed hubs) New pedal hanger bracket at about 160k (cracked in left upper corner rendering clutch pedal useless . . . the dealer said they sell a lot of these??) New clutch, synchros, bearings + retip at 180k New radiator at 200k (pin hole in top) New cat back exhaust at 190 k (hole in muffler - Jardine made me the cat back for free!) New paint at 200k (more of a dent issue than paint issue - I went from black to white too (industrial Imron)! + replaced stock bed liner with Line X and added a SnugTop. New Marlin sliders will hopefully solve future dent problems.) New ac/heater fan controller whatchamacallit (so the fan works on all speeds) New idler arm at 210k (fixed front end clunk) New rear slidiing window (after someone decided they liked my truck more than I did) New EGR modulator at 150k Disconnected brake fluid level sensor at 170k (apparently a bad sensor affects the cruise control. Solution = disconnect the sensor) New starter brushes at about 180k 2 New water pumps replaced at the same time as the timing belt due to cracks New shift lever bushings at ??? 4Crawler 1" BL installed at 227,949k (Only issue was 2nd gear . . solved by trimming the metal boot retaining plate [tin snips, dremel grinder, sand paper] Reappearing EGR code at 22?k was solved after I found a clogged EGR VSV. ISR from Cootees installed. It still needs a little fine tuning . . . . actually cutting. New speedometer cable installed at 236K, finally resolving that intermittent nasty noise from behind the instruments. This is all I can remember at the moment. The list doesn't include all the general maintenance stuff like brakes, filters, plugs/wires, light bulbs, gaskets, battery, etc. Update July 18, 2006 Jasper 3VZE installed with Downey headers and custom exhaust. Injectors were cleaned and balanced. Alternator got a tune up. New OEM starter. New OEM clutch and flywheel. New OEM fan pulley bracket. New water pump. Many parts were replaced that showed wear including hoses, all belts, motor mounts, knock sensor and wire, valve covers, etc. Jasper required a new OEM oil cooler. 4.88 gears were installed front and rear with ARB lockers in both. All bearings, bushings, and seals that were removed during the job were replaced with OEM new. The BudBuilt crossmember/skidplate with 1" drivetrain lift is in. I'll have the front skid in soon. The Sonoran Steel IFS truss is in. I'm working on getting the WabFab Optima mount installed. I have the diff breather parts to put in. My VIAIR system is waiting for installation Word has it that the Marlin bumpers I ordered 12 weeks ago may be ready in the fall sometime. Running BFG AT KO 31 x 10.5 15 on the DD rims . . and 33 x 10.5 15 on the second set of rims I just got. My dash is currently disassembled. The longer it stays disassembled I'm convinced I'll go with a very simple interior. I removed all the carpet from the floor and the back of the cab. It's just huskyliners on the floor now. The door panels are off (I put the armrests back on the bare doors). I'm thinking of sheet metal door panels. I have the OEM dash speaker boxes I may put back in with speakers in the doors and behind the seats in boxes. I'm dreaming of a completely redesigned dash and instrument panel. I have a Cobra CB waiting to be installed. I am thoroughly grateful to: Chris at Rock Tech Offroad in La Habra Great talent and creativity. Bump for the July 18 update!

. . . and I finished the day by reinstalling the grille, putting in the new accelerator cable (that arrived today along with the grille clips) and reinstalling the stereo!

I was a little hesitant to accept the honor. I haven't finished the interior and none of my "sponsor" stickers are on the truck yet. Oh well, at least folks can see a real world work in progress.

Whenever I need to come up with my goal for the truck I think of the phrase "Adventure Access Vehicle." Basically, what this truck has always been for me is a way to get to adventures and a way to get me home. It hasn't let me down yet!
