I'm doing a 5.0L 302 swap in my 80 Truck, looking for some feedback on wiring up a high output Ford alternator to the existing Toyota wires.
My question is which of the factory Toyota wires that connected to the original alternator would be used to connect to the Ford alternator?
The factory alt used a 230 plug that has 3 black wires; two are the same gauge with one having a white strip. The other black wire is made of a smaller gauge.
Also there are two white wires that connected to a terminal post on the Toyota alternator (1 thick wire, 1 smaller wire). I’m thinking the white wires are to recharge the battery.
My Haynes manual doesn’t tell me much as far as what wire is for what. Has anyone installed a Ford alternator on 79-83? Thanks…
