86 sr5turbo(newbe)

Hi guys ,I thoght i would drop in to this forum to find out some info on my new rig. I just picked up an 86 sr5 turbo and know nothin and i mean nothing about the 22ret. Im looking for help on possible problems and some tricks to keep it running perfect. The truck is mint for its age and milage. 190,000miles and runs and looks new with the exeption of the bumpr cap missing in the rear and the bumper alittle dented up....I also got 2 rock chips on my way home from getting it.
Heres what i have figured out so far from talking to a few people...valves need adjusting. and i should have the fluids flushed.

if im posting this in the wrong place please tell me where i should do it cause its different then the forums im used to.

heres the rig...Sorry its dirty it started snowing about 45minutes after i got it. I added the wheels and tires.Other then that i have just done stereo work. Its 100% stock other then that.Feed back is always welcome!

I will get better ones as soon as i wash it

feel free to IM me on any messangers i have listed in my profile cause as of now its my favorite toy.

Thanks
Russell

thanks guys,I am loving the truck and have already gone wheelin a few times.Im impressed with the power on highway and off.I did turn up the boost to 10psi and that made a huge improvement!.I read about tricking the mas airflow and doing intake and stuff first.I did a 2inch downpipe and a hallow cat with a 2inch cat back that flares at the end for looks. The sad part is its all hidden for now cause i havent removed all the stupid black trim off the sides.I have had a few cars on the flatbed behind this and have had no problems with towing.I think i will be adding gears and a suspention lift come mid summer. The truck is a dog coming off a light and could use some waking up. Also in about 4k miles i will be doing a 200,000mile service that i think will help out alot.My plans are listed below and as always any ideas tips tricks or whatever is welcome

New oem headgasket
arp headstuds
fmic in the grill head
rebuild with a mild port and polish job.
rings and bearings with arp fasteners.
chain and guides
full fluid flush on EVERYTHING.
Im also trying to find the parts for either a 5speed swap or a rebuilt auto tranny.
New cv's and u joints
I would do all the balljoints but they were just done along with all the suspention but the rear (will handle all that when its lifted)

New pic

Thanks,I found those links surfing the net. Some of the stuff i thought about doing before i saw it but after reading it i waited on turning the boost up.I had the 2.5 cat back done a highflow cat and a custom downpipe made. I got an adapter for the MAF and put an open ended filter on there and those 2 mods alone made the truck run great.I did a quick oil change/flush of the fluids and then threw in a manual boost controler. I have adjusted it and the maf and now see 10psi before shifting.I noticed a huge loss in gas milage mainly cause now theres more power to play with because now threres power to play with.So far i have caught a few cars off gard with it.Late 90's dakota sport,92-95 civic coupe with fart can and wheels, and a later 90's v6 yota truck. highway speeds the truck pulls nice too...Im adding a custom made "bambi basher" like i had on my truck with 4 hella fogs and trying to find some h4 headlights for a spare H.I.D. kit i have.

I figured out how to remove the sunroof and am thinking about pulling the top off but its never been removed so im unsure if its a good idea.

I just got a call from a friend whos trading me a 20r head i have for a 4inch suspentionlift for it WOOT!!!! now to find tires and new wheels

Updated

well after a few problem free months the tuk had major issues last weekend. a tick turned in to a bad weekend...WE went up wheeling cause the trails opened up and i wanted to test out my new suspension parts. 4wheeling went great had no problems at all. on the way home it started to sound like a bearing had spun or something... well remembering that the truck burned a bit of oil i figured thats what it was...I get to the gas station at the bottom of the hill and check the oil. It was a bit low. i added some to be safe and headed home. About a mile from home my frind calls me and tells me there are sparks flyin out from under the drivers fender. I flip as he says this the truck just falls on its face and dies. we jump out hook it up to the jeep and pull it home.I was kinda mad so i just crashed out. I get up the next morning and find that there is asmall leak ...the truck hasnt leaked a drop from theday i got it home. I pop the hood and see that the plug wires had caugth fire! melted the vacume lines that go to the power steering pump,The harnes for the dizzy and a few other lines and harness...I replace it all and fire it up. runs fine. I was thinking sweet under $50 and were back on theroad .......wrong. I put it in gear and back up it starts to sound like there was a midget in my motor beating on the valve cover. I am clueless now. any ideas? My dad thinks the chain guide broke and skipped a tooth. it kind sounds bent valveish but im not sure.Compression test later today if the rain lets up and a fluid flush to see if there are guide pieces in the pan. it really sounds like its coming from the head but im going to check the timing marks and look on the block maybe it threw a rod like my truck did
