Navajo Rez Wheelin

This run will have rock, sanddunes, hills, bushes and maybe mud if it rains.

Good off-road tires 31" on up and rear locker recommend. Although it might be possible without a locker.

Meeting place will be the Super gas station just as you enter Tuba City on your left hand side. Meeting time will be 9:00am MST and leave at 9:30am MST.

The date is going to be: March 22nd

I'll keep an eye on this thread... maybe I can tie this run into the Escalante UT expedition...which I am still trying to figure out.

Tuba City is almost on the way to Page after all.

Don't pickup any pottery or anything like that. You'll get in trouble if your caught.

the area i have in mind is just north of tuba city. theres two mesas. one to drive over and the other to drive around.

permission is really not needed is most areas. probably just the state parks and peoples land. as long as you have a guide, which would be me, it should be fine.

We would have a guide, which opens the door to even drive the bottom of Canyon De Chelly.

I have had my 4Runner down there, it is really awsome.

Brian... you have access to Canyon De Chelly? Meaning, can you act as a guide?

I saw a thread about driving through there the other day that really wet my appetite.

http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7763

I think I already have a GPS route saved. If no one is exactley sure of the way to go.

I know exactly where to go. White House Ruin, look for the all too familiar 4Runner parked at the base.

I have driven to the base of Spider Rock as well. That place is great.

You only need a permit to camp and hike in the back-country ($5 per person per day/night). According to the NNEPA and Parks and Recs department, you are free to drive across the Rez but must remain on established roads.

Actually ive never driven that place. It would probably be better to get a guide there cause they could tell you a lot of facts about the place. i dont know much about it. I would sure like to check it out though.

For Canyon de Chelly you are actually required an AUTHORIZED guide.

http://www.nps.gov/cach/planyourvisi...servations.htm

Also some info on permits from NPRD

http://www.navajonationparks.org/permits.htm
the FAQ explains a little more about driving. NNEPA said the same thing.

My parents did a trip there about a year back and I've been dying to go ever since. If this run is on the table I'm in...
I'm a control freak so it would be much more exciting to bring my own 4runner down there instead of just riding in someone elses vehicle.
Got any more pics of that trip?

I am in a bit of a holding pattern until I get my job situation figured out. I'll follow along with what ever date gets chosen and hope to join in.

I was going to mention that there was already a run on 3/22 but I see it has changed dates. That works out beautifully for me as I can't do the 15th but I still can arrange for the new Crown King date, so I guess my vote is for 3/22.

I have a Tacoma lift to install on the 22nd and Crown King is the next weekend, 29th.

March 1 I am busy as well. But don't schedule anything on my account, I seem to be having a harder time getting out these days. But I am going out tomorrow to Elvis.
