Todays progress

Day 2 of the rear lift went well.
As promised, a couple pics of the cleaned off axle and frame.

The axle sans perches

The front hanger gone and markings for the new hanger location.

Former shackle hanger location.

Steves experience with these has been that they end up butt low so we decided to mount the shackle hanger on a 2 inch block, fabbed up here...

...and with the shackle hanger in place and still smokin'.

In with the new...

Then we got a little busy with getting the springs hung and trial fitting the axle. Here is the test fit of the axle for the first time with full weight on it. From here we were able to fudge it around a bit to determine the best position for perches.

And the final stance (before settling) with a smiling Steve, done for the day.

And one last crappy, dark, and rainy shot.

Now there will be some fiddling with bumpstops and shock placement, but starting to near the end. Sadly, it's back to that job thing for me now.

With the holidays past and the disc brakes installed on my buggy, it is once again time to work on the blue beast.

It has a full tank of gas so I do not blow up, and it sure starts and runs a lot better with a full tank.

Next up plasma off the last of the front IFS brackets and weld on the motor mount plates.

This is today. Those 2" shackle blocks are MUST as these are 5" TG rear leafs. 4" fronts.

Sorry for the slow response... been working. Yes, the pic is still with 31's. Still have 4.10 gearing in the rear. At first I was going to yank the diff and get it over to Zuk while the truck was down anyways, but then we decided it made more sense to leave it buttoned up while we were making dust and metal flakes and slag all over the place. I'll also leave the 31's on it until I get the alignment dialed in perfectly. I might as well scuff up the old rubber rather than the new.

What tires did you decide to go with?

Tires...I asked the same thing before and he is using some old used tires for now - seen in the background here:

Mastercraft AT in a 35/1250/15

...I see that rubber being very short term!

Well......

The rear end is going to HAVE to get custom shock mounts. To run those 14" shocks on the stock rear mounts they would need to have a compressed value of 19" they are 20.75", 1 3/4" too long. No way to mount the lower mount any lower. That is in the lowest spot, under the axle already. I will have to build a bar up as high as possible and they will then work just fine.

Even though we followed the directions to the tee. The rear shackles are raked back a bit form sitting on the springs for a few weeks now. I am seriously considering going one up in those.

The kit came with 5", I am considering going to 6". This call has to be made before the bump stops and shocks placement or that will be screwed up.

Finally these wet noodle rear spring will HAVE to get a traction bar. They wrap going up the driveway.

I have lots of pics, I will post when I get a minute.

Ok.......

I can make the 14's work in the front. That has 4" of up travel and with the body lift, I was able to get quite a bit of room up there.

Rear has 5" of up, I need a compressed value of 19 or less and the 12's will do that. So they will work on the rear.

Mike- Call me about the shackles. I think we need to switch them out.

What are the plans for the driveshafts?

Any future plans for a crawl box or 4.7s?

Good. I'm relieved about the shocks. I was going to say we should have TG swap them out for something shorter that will work rather than having to fab around a too long shock. But if they are all good, then
Do what you need to with the shackles. Any chance TG will exchange or will we have to sell them off on the board to recoup some $?

I'm going to put a dual in it straight off. I see no point in re working the shafts twice, and you know I'm going to end up there eventually. Once that's in, I'll get measurements and send the shafts to JE Reel. Also still need to get the rear diff to ZUK for a re gear, hook up the ARB compressor, find and install a winch, probably should do some rear axle upkeep while the diff is out.... Jesus

On a seperate note, did you get my e mail?

All we need is 4: 6" side plates. $20.00 for all 4. Very small investment.

Call me later, without that trac bar this thing is not going to climb anything. I think we need to bring that stuff in and at least get the mount welded on before you service the rear, so we just re-heat the old oil again.

...may as well throw that "Elvota rear disc setup" on too when you service the rear!

...and since you're at it, might as well throw in a 2.7 or 3.4 swap. That way I'll know what's involved.
