Hey man, when and where ya gunna start the swap? I would be interested it giving ya a hand if possible. Obviously being the old married guy with kids of the group and working in Fayetnam most of the week, I would be iffy at best. But never the less let me know if ya want a hand. Oh yeah, dont know much about motors either, but the guys at work call me corn fed and always get my help with heavy stuff

ive got a transmission now, im going to DC to pick it up in two weeks. the truck and motor are sitting at my fabricators place waiting to get the new motor mounts welded in. After that its just hooking up all the vitals back to the motor, and tuning it. This whole process has been very frustrating. The setbacks keep coming at me at every step of the way. Its not that its that hard, its been sitting with nothing being done for 99.999% of the last 3 months. Its gonna be finished eventually (sooner rather than later, driving the minivan is getting a little old). The motor looks sweet, ill try to get some pics of it when it gets mounted in the engine bay. Theres lots of cool plans for it so stay tuned, the drama continues

on another note i did get my rear disc brake conversion pretty much finished. i just need to pressurize the system again. also, if any of you want sliders, bumpers, or any other msc welding/cutting/fabricating done i highly recommend my new friend cliff. He will be doing all the work on my truck from now on. Super nice guy and very good at what he does. Fair labor charges as well.

Sweet Jermey, glad to hear things are finally looking up for ya. Can't wait to see the thing installed and really can't wait to hit the trails with you again. Thanks for the suggestion of a good fabricator. I have been looking at alot of 85's and there would be a fair bit of protection fabrication I would want done, and I can't even begin to think of anyone around here. What is the position of your SAS, or is that to far for you to look right now w/o an engine. Good luck and keep us up on things.

well now that i have a job thats $3-400 a month extra income so i would say a solid axle isnt too far off after this is done. By comparison a SAS is an afternoon project compared to swapping motors, and i already have 1/2 the stuff i need to complete the SAS.

a complete axle makeover is a long task, trust me i know. ive got mine all broken down and sanded, just waiting to be painted and put back together. Torching and grinding the IFS braces off is about the most borring task possible, but the frame looks so much cleaner with it all gone. ill try to get ahold of a camera and take some pics this weekend, just so you can see how things stand right now.

did you end up buying an extra housing or exchanging somehow? im missing pretty major part off my axle.

http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech..._axle_pano.jpg

.talked about here in step 3

part J in that layout. i thought it was just the brake rotor but i found out later theres bearings in there and you just replace the rotor on it. I just got a little over-eager cleaning up the other day and chucked it in the garbage without thinking. If you have one i could get or know somebody lemme know

Just? Hah.... Did you ever get a harness from that guy who sold you the motor? If not, we're gonna need a MKIII FSM and your 4Runner FSM to BUILD a wiring harness. That's not hard, but it won't be fun... Also, let's get that motor to those guys! That's some extra $$$ for you! Call me...
