Heh, now they can't afford to send him to military school cause step dad will lose his job at MS. Maybe Emo boy doesn't know about the NDA.

I have to agree with some people... his dad should have explained to the kid what kind of consequences there might be with the confidentiality issues.

I generally dislike braggarts but can't really find myself feeling anything but bad for the poor dad who has to explain to his supervisors just how this all happened.

Any NDA is serious.

Too bad the kid actually felt insecure enough to back up his claims.....should have just left em guessing.

I'll bet you he did. The "NEO" (New Employee Orientation) that MS employees go through has a LOT of grilling about things like this.

On top of that, considering the job position his dad is/was in (Regulatory Compliance Manager), it should have been inherent in his day-to-day activities to make sure the kid(s) understand that they can't talk about what dad brings home.

My kids know what they can and can't say, and they understand what happens if they do. I have a 16yo that's been chomping at the bit to tell his buddies a lot of things for the past couple of months. Some of it is now in the press, but _legally_ the meat of the NDA is solid until ship time.... and actually 3 years past ship for some stuff.

This kid's dad is in real trouble. It was just a year(ish) ago that MS fired someone for publishing pictures of Mac G5's on a MS loading dock.

I didn't know you worked for MS!?
Cool! So what can you tell us?

Do you happen to know this kid's dad? Or heard about what's going on?

I did, I don't now, but I am on-site writing something under contract to make people grin wider about their Xbox 360.

There are a couple of people around YT who work for ... them. I think I'm the only one here doing (Xbox 360) dev work, but there may be other folks that are touching the box on a daily basis.

Everything! It's bright blue with pink polka dots; it's got a built-in CO2 tap (parents will want to hook up a soda mix for the kids, adults can hook up beer); it's got tank treads for chasing away your pesky little brother/sister; it runs on methane for those long bathroom sessions... the list of useability features is enormous.

(in short, I can't even legally confirm or deny anything that has been in the press)

And this is something that DEFINITELY can't be commented on. I can only voice personal opinion, not share any info.

yeup. that's the bottom line of any NDA.

Not to really stretch the topic, but to give you an idea of how nasty an NDA can be, I can't talk about the specifics of the code I wrote for 3Com's VoIP system back in 1997-99 until 2009.

What's funny is that many times you can say that you signed an NDA, but you can't say what you signed it for. The only way that you'd be able to "tell" someone what you were working on is if they started guessing.. When you went mute after a bunch of "no's", then you hit it.
Are you working on Word 18.3?
{no}

Are you working on Windows core?
{no}

Are you working on a new Halo?
{no}

Are you working on Bill's house?
{no}

Are you working on ____?
{insert crickets chriping}
