xbox 360 crashing!

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000743069364

So, the Xbox 360’s been available for, what, 15 minutes, and already the crash reports are streaming in. According to postings on Xbox-Scene and other fan sites, some early adopters are discovering that waiting on line in the cold for two years to snag a box was the least of their problems: the game consoles are allegedly crashing during a variety of games and reporting a range of error messages. There’s even a pic up on flickr that purports to show the 360 crashing as the Microsoft logo loads. Sure, it’s too early to declare this a pandemic and start hurling Xboxes out of windows, but it still has us wondering: How’s your 360 holding up?

P.S. And yes, our Xbox has crashed a bit too — though nothing too terrible.

I also can't wait for the PS3, but never EVER get the initial builds.
I always wait a few months after they are released to get the bugs figured out.

They all come with a year warrenty so if there are any problems they'll send you a new one.
Like most news stories it's hyped for attention. The failure rates are very low.
You might be waiting for the PS3 longer then you're expecting.

I'd rather wait for PS3 forever than help Gates in his quest to dominate all computing markets.

Just to point out, the text that sdastg1 posted is a quote from the engadget website, not his own words...

That said... Given the number of consoles that they placed into the market the last 3 days, this is "normal". Like I said in another thread here, I'd bet that the overall failure rate is less than .001%.

I played a buddy's Xbox360 last night for about an hour, no probs, even with PGR 3 which is said to be one cause. As well, that console has been literally been active since he got it on D-Day, no probs.

It may be a "normal" manufacturing oops in the console or it may be the PS. It's just like anything else that's mass produced - there will be failures.

Is that "good"? No. Should consumers be expected to put up with it? No. Does it happen in ALL industries? Yeup. Are we hearing about it because of all the hype for the last year? Yeup. Will it happen with the PS/3 as well? You betcha'.

someone said its a bad power supply, no big deal... when in the off chance the disk is doing something, and hte power supply dies, the disk head may fall and can permanently damage the disk surface..... that could be quite a big deal....

Are you talking about the harddrive? That hasn't been an issue for YEARS.

Harddrives today have retract systems that protect against just this issue. The power dies and the heads are off the platter and retracted in an instant, a shorter instant than it takes the Bernoulli effect (that which is keeping the head airborne off of the platter) to die away.

Yes, you can still get "crashes", but not from power failures.
