so this girl that i see at work (don't actually work directly with her) slips me her number today. she is nice enough and i am single, but i have no interest in her. i don't want to ignore her altogether for two reasons; 1) i will see her again in a few weeks and it will make for an awkward moment, and 2) i just wouldn't feel right about it. i wouldn't want to be ignored if the situation were reversed.

i've been trying to come up with a nice way of saying thanks, but no thanks, but without lying too. ideas?

Good call. They always say don't date anyone from work, you could use it as your out, as long as your polite about you should be fine. But there are reasons they always say there's an exception to every rule.

But one good rule my dad taught me way back... Be nice to them all. BC they all talk, and they all have friends. Once your a bad guy, you will most likely be a lonely bad guy until you change your surroundings.

When you see her tell her thank you for the number but you are'nt interested in a relationship with a co-worker but if she wants to be just coffee buddies {with the understanding that that's all you'll be} then you're cool with that.
Maybe she has a hot friend [without all the "co-worker baggage] you would be interested in.

Personally this has not been an issue for me since almost everyplace I've worked had strict non-fraternization policies written into the contracts [it was a terminable offense to have any social relationships with co-workers].
Check with your HR dept. you may have a tiny little clause in your employment agreement or company policy manual that will give you a handy way to duck out.

she's not a co-worker at all. i'm a delivery guy. my job involves me interacting with her at her job. as for the coffee buddy thing, i don't think that would even be very wise in this particular case.

Normally I wouldn't address something like this, seeing its a Yota website but eh, whatevs.

Just to clarify a couple things, This chick hasn't even addressed that she's interested in you. Chicks can hand out their number just to keep in touch and "be friends". You stated that you dont work with her directly. so technically speaking, you dont really know this female at all. and she slipped you her phone number? every highly - social person is free giving with their phone number. Why's it matter what you think of her or not, she doesn't have your number, unless, of course you have called or texted her since recieving it. going off that, why would you text/call/make contact with her outside of work if you aren't interested? You also stated that you see her once every few weeks. If its strictly business, and you aren't interested. It should be highly easy to not make any contact what so ever. How does seeing her in a few weeks make for an awkward moment? Going off what you've told us I can almost guarantee if you didn't talk to her it wont be an awkward situation. I would think it were more awkward if you did talk to her. I think you might be assuming that she likes you because the slip of a phone number. Unless you wanna clarify things for us a bit more, I'd say you got the wrong assumption going with this chick. Maybe she's not interested in you, yet you think she is. and to address your "feeling bad about it" you cant make everybody happy. and some chick that you see every 2 months is not gonna give a damn about you not texting her.
