What to sell? My truck or my 4 runner?

As some may know by now, the wife and I just purchased an 02 Honda Odyssey. We have been mulling this over since November and finally decided on an odyssey and found one in our price range. Anyway, so now we have to sell something. The origional thought was to sell the 4 Runner. I have it posted in the for sale area. I got to thinking yesterday though, would I be better off selling my 94 Toy truck instead?

The 4 runner has went through a rebuilding starting in 02. First I had a new paint job with lifetime warrantee. Then the topend of the 3.0 was fully rebuilt along with some DOA mods. I just redid the front rotors, brakes and balljoints. It has new tires on it. We put a lot of money into it before we knew we were expecting a Now we feel that the van will better suit our needs for awhile although the wife still loves the 4 runner.

My truck is a 94 Toyota std cab 5 speed 4x4. It has 128k miles on it and is now due for a clutch replacement and timeing chain replacement. The paint on the hood and roof has started to get a faded spot in it so it is not new looking anymore. Although the BFG muds still have decient tread on them, I am 99% highway now and really need some revoes on there.

My thought about the truck is this: I love it, but I did test drive a tacoma ext cab 4x4 with the 3.4 L engine. I REALLY love that. So I wanted to get one of those in about 3 or 4 years. I REALLY could use an ext cab now, but thats the way it goes.

So, I thought that since I had a lot more money in the 4 runner than in the truck, and the 4 runner could tow some things that the truck cant, I might be better off selling the truck and keeping the runner. As far as towing, I have a boat that if we go local, the truck is fine. But places we want to go out of town would require the 4 runner or a tow package be put on the van. Also, the van could not tow a car, the truck could not, but the 4 runner can. I have a utility trailer for hauling stuff now so I dont need the bed of the truck. I also need to have room for more than just 2 people in the vehicle that i drive.

So what would yall do? Sell the 90 4 runner or the 94 truck?

One other thought, If I kept the 4 runner, then I would still feel like a true yotatech member.

That is tough.
I really wanted a truck but i figured that if i wanted to go up in the hills and play i couldn't take my two boys with me.
So that is the reason i purchased an older 4runner. If i need to haul anything i'll just use my neighbors trailer.
I say stay with the 4runner.

I vote for the Runner but I'm kinda biased since I just got my Runner 6 months ago after going through the pickup or 4Runner decision.

So far it looks like the vote is for selling the truck. So a question to SLC and 10 4 80 would be why do you say to sell the truck?

Sell the truck. With the trailer the 4runner can act as a truck, but you can never pile people in the truck. I like pickups but in reality the majority of people drive with an empty box 95% of the time. I have always stuff in the back of the runner and I don't have to worry about it getting stolen, since it's locked up. Also a trailer typically is more pratical in my opinion then a bed in a truck. Usually the bed in a trailer is lower (easier loading) and you can have long things sticking out at the front and the rear of the trailer. I used to have a 6x12 trailer and could carry 20ft lenghts of pipe by having them sticking over 4ft on each end. Just keep it in the middle of the trailer, so you don't take out a taillight while taking a corner :-).
Anyway, I am sure you get my the point. That's just my opinion.

Sell the truck. As stated, 4runner has more passenger room.

I have owned 2 Toyota (Tacoma and Hilux SR5) pickups in the last 7 years.

And just to let you know, I am considering selling my Toy for a 4runner because of the passenger room. One worst, I want an automatic. Or the boys down south call it "an ice cream truck". Because, you can drive and eat your ice cream.

Good luck

From the way you typed your post (Williemon) I think you answered your own question

Unless of course the 4Runner is worth a considerable ammont of money more than the Pickup and you really need the money, then it's a different story.

My vote obviously goes to the 4Runner

Sell the Odyssey
I'd say keep the 4runner because you have the trailor to serve the duties of the pick up bed and you have alot more time and money into it.

I said sell the truck because of the information you provided. You have more money into it; to tow anything you wouldn't need to spend any more money, it's already capable; the extra passenger room; and you said you liked the 3.4 Taco. Sell the truck, stash the money and add to it until you have enough for that Taco of your dreams.

I voted for the 4Runner because:
-You have put so much money into it, and since you will not recoup the repairs, then you should get your monies worth out of it.
-It can transport more than 1 person
-It sounds like its in better condition than the truck

I have been praying about this since last week. I felt at peace with the decision I made in my mind and you guys have affirmed the decision. This all means to me that the right decision would be to sell the truck. I feel good about it. See the ad in the classified section.

You should move those mudders over to the 4Runner. It would look good!

Good decision and kudos on praying about it first!
I made the mistake of rushing into an '03 Tacoma TRD Xtra Cab and, while it was a terrific truck, I should have stopped to ask for guidance first.
I sold it before the first scheduled oil change and bought my '00 4Runner. Much happier now. I don't know what I was thinking...........
