you have to be registered and logged in to see the shout box. i can turn that off for a couple days if there is interest in seeing it.....

marlin's board has one as well... different software but you get the idea. http://board.marlincrawler.com/

i prefer the shout box over a "chat room" it dose the same thing but the messages stay no matter how many people are on... so you can kinda leave notes for the next person who logs in. its also on the main page so that its less likely to get lost in the links trying to find the chat room.

That ITG phrase reminds me of an ol' boy who once told me over the phone that he "was gonna stomp a mud hole" in me.....that's not what happened in the end. There's a saying around my neck of the woods; "Don't count 'cher chickens before they hatch"

I don't know folks a "shout-out" box thingy might be ok but how would it be "moderated" for compliance with forum rules/policy?

I agree there has been a rash of negativity lately in certain threads, some of it was simply a circular arguement over legal issues, and some other stuff was more just people venting their frustrations.

It has been a very long grey winter and generally worse then we've had the last few years, chuck in the world wide geo-political/electoral nonsence of the past few months, the slowing economy etc. and folks in general seem to have less tolerance then usual. We all really need to just relax and take a breath now and then and re-read our posts before we hit the "Post Reply" button.

Personally I think the ricers and the hard core wheelers can get along just fine. Are'nt we all mod-ing our trucks? Making them all they can be for our intended purpose? We all have something to offer each other when you think about it.

That's all I have to say about that.

the shout box can be moderated. the censor rules apply, and it can be set so that mods/admins can "prune" the shoutbox which clears it. for that matter only 20 latest things are kept visible.

I think a shout-box would really help this site.
It would save our threads from being bombarded
with useless banter, etc.. to mess them up for anyone
who wishes to use them for reference in the future.

If the current trend keeps up, the 'Search' feature
will lose all value.

For me, the bad mood is going to be lifted when I turn in my two weeks notice Friday and give my girlfriend an engagement ring Saturday.

I guess I wonder why folks take things so personally. Racer states he was a jerk to me before. I didn't even notice.... To me it's all part of spirited intercourse (not THAT kind of intercourse....). It occurs to me that arguments between reasonable individuals are all about differential definitions. Debate is the vehicle for realigning definitions until there is a unanimity of perspective. That process decays when one or both parties abandon dispassionate postures and seize the uglier side of human nature.

Follow that prinicple and we could discuss ANY topic.....

And that is ALL human nature my friend.

That's why so few true "discussions" or "debates" about hot button issues can be settled by anyone, let alone young people whose hormones are still wildly out of balance. Once a person matures a little more they gain the ability to reason out opinions with one another & when they simply can't agree they stop talking about it.

I have a hot button issue, I can't see it any other way. It's an issue that will get me steaming mad.....fighting mad even. There is no discussion that can be attempted on that issue for me & I'm forty years old, my hormones have leveled off & I'm a heck of a lot more easy going than I was when I was young....my point is even after all that aging I still have one issue I would kill or die over; so you never know how a person really feels about something. To one person it's a non-issue to another person the same issue is life or death.

Hence why wars are fought I suspect.

People who ask about body kits lowering kits usually get alot of greif. It is a 4x4 inclined site but i think as long as they own a toyota they are considered family

The "use the search function" crowd can be a bit irritating sometimes but the way they see it the ones who don't use it are just as irritating. They get tired of answering the same questions over & over again so that leaves you with, A: tell the poster to search or B: Don't answer which leaves the poster feeling ignored or snubbed.

A happy medium would be to just suck it up & answer the same old question for the billionth time or for the op to have searched & not asked in the first place.

Exactly.

We've all got that one wierd cousin that shows up at the family reunion.
We all snicker and laugh quietly to ourselves, but we surely don't get pissed
off and start crap with them.

It should be no different here. Yeah, I kinda wish some people would spend
more time looking through the posts on this site before they decide to join
and ask questions about things nobody here knows anything about.
I've come to realize that those members usually don't last more than a few
weeks before they get the idea that this really isn't the place for therm
and move on.

I am about to pull the trigger on upgrading to ShoutBox Pro for my forum which allows a lot more moderation i'll let corey know how it goes. I love having the shoutbox, it cuts down on post whoring and gives people a place to talk.

Shout box would be....interesting but im worried it would become infested with political jargon from at least one person in particular...not naming any names of course.

If it could be kept clean and free of political drama, it would be great!

Nobody is forcing people to click on the political/religious/etc oriented threads but I don't like it when it spills over to another thread.
