Exclamation What's Happened to YotaTech?

I've been noticing alot of negativity on YotaTech lately.
I don't know who peed in everybody's Wheaties, but it seems like
half of the threads I view involve some type of argument or rant
completely unrelated to the original topic. Its getting a little out of hand.

Now, before anyone starts on me, yeah I am guilty of this, too.
I said some things in a thread that were probably a little immature and
unneccessary and didn't need to be said. I have since made my peace with
all members involved and will not let it happen again.

I offer a solution to everyone's problem (yes, it is a problem).
If at any time, for any reason, you begin to feel heated or annoyed with
a thread or a member... QUIT POSTING!
Is it really such a big deal to just let it go? You are talking to people
whom you've never met, nor will probably ever come in contact with
in the real world. Chances are they live in completely different
time zone, perhaps even a different country.

Understand that, with all this off-topic arguing thats been going on
within threads is destroying this site. It will render these threads useless
for future use in searches, etc.

I know I'm just another member here, and I have no Administrative
priveledges, nor do I financially support this site in any way. But tell me
I'm wrong here... this has got to stop.

I see what ya mean, but have faith, it's been worse......I'm pretty sure.....

People seem to get a little bitchy this time of year. I think because it's been a long winter, and people don't quite know how to act just yet. I think a lot of people were pissed off at the writer's strike, and the lack of anything good on TV, so they come here, and make their own dramas. That's my theory at least.

The economy is bad, it's an election year, oh and it's tax season. There's a lot to gripe about.

It is called ITG, short for Internet Tough Guy syndrome.
YotaTech is mild compared to a lot of other forums out there.

Some of the stuff I have read elsewhere and even here are insane.
Would you talk face to face to someone the same way you do on forums if you are being the ITG?

I think not.
I know it would not fly with me.
Someone would be missing some teeth and they would come out in the next time they sat down.

Seriously, how hard is it to take a few minutes when composing a message?
Hiding behind a keyboard though gives some people a feeling of being invincible.
Think not, anyone can find your home address with a little research and camp out on your property and do some serious damage if they wanted to.

I understand there is a balance between asserting a point and polite behavior. I also recoginze that if someone composes a post that is wildly unprincipled and destructive, inaction is tantamount to endorsement. I refuse to let misleading information rest. I try to do it amicably.

One more thing:

My suggestions to anyone on YT regarding the political or moral debate issue is this: Go join a political or religious forum if you want to debate moral and or political issues. Yes of course morals and politics may define how we behave on YT but we don't have to debate them here like many have as of late and create a lot of drama.

There all betta'! *smile*

I don't really understand the original post.

I do agree that there has been a lot of negativity here, but its NOTHING new. The topics are different, but there are always negative Nancy's.

There are always internet tough guys, and always those who pick fights.

Quit worrying about it.

Great Point! Last night for the first time I found the 'Political' threads area. For the past year and a half (since I first stumbled upon YotaTech) I've thought of YotaTech as a place of solitude, an escape from the world around me, where one can just read/talk about Shocks, Lifts, SASs, Tune-Ups, and whatever. It was like we were all here for a common purpose, to maximize the abilities of our vehicles, and learn from one another. But as we all know things must change. In this kindler/gentler world of tolerance even an AUTOMOTIVE forum can become a place of great debate, dividing us down the middle. I came to YT because I drive a Toyota. I think it's one heck of a vehicle! It's sad to see all the 'OFF-TOPIC' topics that cause opposition among the members. Anyways, again Great Point!

THANK YOU, lysmachia..

I have some theories regarding people who always
feel the need to spout off their political/moral beliefs.

We won't get into that here, though.

I'm amazed at the seemingly constant need to express
opinions on these two topics. I am somewhat political,
and VERY moral, and I feel no need to discuss either
of those two parts of my life on an internet 4WD forum.

Yeah when people get like that with me (at work mostly)
I find that politely telling them which part of you they
can kiss, hidden under big words they don't understand,
and mixed with a touch of sarcasm, usually does the trick.
I find getting down on their level usually leaves you in
an argument and you walk away peeved.

Ive noticed a few different things going on lately.....

For one...the ricers and 4wheelers dont get along...big surprise....

Second, people keep asking for opinions of "mods" and then get butthurt when they are not told," OH my god, thats the coolest thing ever! Which autozone did you get that at?"

Sometimes people dont realize how dumb they are until someone else points it out...there are nice ways to do this...and not so nice..

ok, im done here

My problem is inflation without an increase in pay! I guess some days it spills over into my relaxing computer time. I can go on and on about financial difficulties, but I'd rather just say.....

Short of all the political stuff, this is very true.
No one can take criticism about their vehicle modifications anymore. It is disgusting to see someone getting bashed by members because they are reminding someone that the mod might be, and actually is illegal or unsafe.
Not everything deserves, "awesome job" followed by the usual post-whore "X2".

I admit that i have not been on here as long as many, but it seems that whenever we have a flair up in political threads or religious threads it spills over into other threads that have nothing at all to do with religion/politics.

And as i have noticed an extra helping of political threads as of late I am not suprised by all of the that is going around.

If you want to come on Yotatech and post about how much X canidate sucks then please keep it in the thread. Don't follow poeople around to other threads who dissagree with you and disrupt the rest of us.

x2....thats awesome!

From what I can tell the board is dividing into two factions: those who wheel.....and those who dont

Maybe they should start a sub-forum for street trucks....I thought this was supposed to be an off-road oriented forum...?? yes? no?

people are losing touch with the true intent of the board

No joke.

I'm fine with different types of trucks. What is even worse is when the OP of a thread is like "cool, no worries, you don't have to like it" and other people who don't even have the mod on their truck get all butthurt.

I harp on stupid stuff regardless of whose crap it is. If you are a webwheeling wiener who is trying to SAS a truck when you have an open open rig on 31's, I'll call you for the idiot you are, and if you put HID's on your truck, whether its a street truck or an offroad rig, I will tell you that your modification is stupid and dangerous.

If people don't want opinions, why post up?

Because my friend, there are far too many people who desperately need the proverbial stroking of their egos to feel happy with themselves.

But I'm with you. Don't post up if you aren't willing to hear some tell you they think your idea is not that great, because it may happen. (And sometimes should.)

Corey we should have a shot out box, this would control the rants and way off topic posts.

If you don't want the ego to get off don't stroke it, or tease the ego.

I have heard of a shout out box, but I am not really familiar with it.

Just like we have the chat installed here again, I hardly use it.
I should, but I am just to busy reading here and two other forums for my FJ Cruiser fix.
