I've always been a huge fan of the Offspring. They've got some kick ass tunes.

So I just finished watching a concert on CBC - Great Big Sea - kinda of an Irish-type band - they were awesome - my gf loves them - so she knew all about them - but I have never heard of them... they rocked - and were a lot of fun. If you like that type of music - I would TOTALLY recommend checking them out!

GBS!!!! YAY!!!!! East coast music is great.
You can try the Barra MacNeils, The Rankins, The Cottars, The Fables, and The Cheiftans to name a few. I'll throw some more in as they come to my mind. I'm just in shock that people in the US listen to them. I'm on a little rock accross the water (ocean) from them. I've been to 2 of their concerts here, awesome band to see live, they're great. If you're in a fast car, listen to some metal, it'll definatly pump you up. Dream Theater, Dragonforce, sonata arctica etc etc.

But how are bands supposed to get their name out there?? I don't go to the record store and just start buying cd's... this is also partly of what I am doing with this post... I want to hear new music... With smaller bands - I BUY their cds. Someone will copy one of their cds for me - so I can check it out - and if I like it, I'll buy more. They are the ones that need the support! But for the really big bands - F THEM (sorry for the outburst - but I am sick of some of their whining!) they have plenty of money - and they are NOT losing any by people sharing... pretty soon they are going to want to BAN cd burners and tape recordes and vcr's... that's the same thing as downloading music - at least in my eyes!! 89 - tell me about your band... what kind of music is it? Could you send me a song or two so I can sheck you guys out? Do you have and cd's out? Like I said I absolutely LOVE hearing new music... quick tangent - I am actually getting really excited for labor day - here in Seattle, we have the Bumbershoot festival that weekend - 4 days of nothing but music - granted I can't afford to go all four days - but we are going on the last day to go see some new bands as well as the Decemberists and Flogging Molly - should be a lot of fun... Ok enough of me rambiling... Cheers!!!

Great Big Sea is awesome! Hell yeah they are!! That was the first I really heard them - but I had to have a few beers listening to them - it was great!!
Little different kind of music, try: Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down (punk) - I just bought this disk a few weeks ago - the whold album is awesome! Mat Kearney - Bullet (acoustic, guitar type hip-hop) - Never heard of these guys - I'll check it out tonight!! Rocky Votolato - Alabaster, or anything else of his (acoustic, heartfelt rockish) - Same with this! Craig Morgan - Redneck Yacht Club, What I love about Sunday (country) - I just head this song this morning while I was eating breakfast and watching CMT - I downloaded it right then!!! If you like this guy you GOTTA check out The Warren Brothers!!! Thrice - Cold Cash and Colder Hearts (hardcore/harder rock) - I got a cd called Punk Goes Acoustic and these guys are on it - pretty good... Copeland - Downtown, or Love is a Fast Song (?) - I'll check these guys out tonight - sounds familiar - but maybe because I but Copeland Compressors every day (I'm in sales for an HVAC Co.) Thanks!!!!

To tell you the truth, I've listened to a few little known groups from downloaded music, and then I went and bought their cd's. Instead of hating them for that one song they play over and over on the radio and missing the chance of me ever buying from them, I ended up buying all their cd's.
