What to do in Vancouver BC?

So I'm kinda on a crazy weekend road trip, right now I'm in Oak Harbor Washington. Just got here today after a non stop trip from Northern California. Tomorrow I'm headed up to Vancouver, BC Canada. I've never been there and I have no plans as of yet. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of things to do or places to see, my friends and I will probably be stayin there for 2 nights, any good areas for pubs and beer? I'm not a hardcore partyer, some calmer places would be cool. What should I do while I'm there?! Anyway I'm crazy tired right now, been up for almost 40 hours so if this post doesn't make sense thats why...

Thanks!!
Brian

Used to be, a lot of them are closed down now The No. 5 still has a good show
http://www.straight.com/article/no-5...owroom-pub-0?#

If you're looking for action then Granville St downtown is probably the place to go, lots of pubs & clubs there. You also get to watch some good fights after closing time

I don't spend a lot of time in the city anymore so I'm not sure where the good places are. I'll link this thread to the BC one, maybe some of the younger guys can chime in.

I use to go to the Town Pump bar in Gas Town many many years ago back in the late 70s and early 80s.

Not sure if it is still there or not, but they had a piano around the bar and all the peanuts you could stuff your face with, and good food.

The X wife and I even stopped by there on our honeymoon.

Really depends on just what you looking to get into to. Kitsalano Beach has some awesome beach soccer going down. Or Wreck Beach (nudie one at that). If you like hot women in lil bikinis... (Iam sure you do )At kits beach this weekend there is the Molson Open. Beach Volley ball tourny. Post up what you think youd like to do And Iam sure more people will chime in!
Cheers, Lee

definitely check out some of the pubs/bars along granville, and gastown (waterstreet). lots to be had there from hoochie bar star clubs (mostly on granville & robson), to relaxed pub style drinks (mostly in gastown area), and everything in between.

vancouver is world famous for their:

sushi- pretty much anywhere in downtown...esp the smaller hole in the wall shops.

strippers- (brandies, #5 orange, the cecil)
awesome marijuana - (stop by the coffee shops! and surrounding shops on hastings street)

oh...and lets not forget the great outdoors. stanley park in down town, and the north shore mountains in the backyard for all sorts of fun stuff!

...enjoy your visit here!

Cool I use to live in Oak Harbor and work on the south end of the island in Freeland. You could kill so much time just looking around the sound. Say hi to both customs on I-5 we have had long chats before.

If you've got time, check out Playland. It's pretty cool. Lots of rides, and games, and mini doughnuts. Mmm...mini doghnuts. It's at Hastings an Renfrew. Also, Cieli's (unsure of spelling) is an awesome Irish pub/bar on Smithe at Granville, right near lots of other bars.

Excellent choice. If you go to the one on Water St. (in Gastown), you can walk around afterwards. Stay on Water St. though, the area is a little rough just outside of Gastown to the south.

Drive west on Water Street (the mountains are north if you need to get your bearings) until it becomes West Cordova St. Stay on West Cordova St. until you reach Howe St. Make a right turn onto Howe, and you will end up at the Pan Pacific Hotel right in the heart of the business district. This hotel, cruise ship terminal and the Vancouver Convention Centre are all in one. It's nice to walk around the outside perimeter. Go right up to the top and you will have a view of the Burrard Inlet, North Vancouver, and you can see Stanley Park nearby. If you like large parks, Stanley Park is a must see.

Granville Island is also a great place to visit if you like Pike Place Market in Seattle, WA.

Hastings street during the daytime is quite colorful. The vampires come out at night.

The weather report for the weekend doesn't look too good at the moment for any beach action. I would suggest taking in Gastown like Pat suggested and checking out the pubs along Granville Street. Robson Street is for tourists. Stanley Park is still being cleaned up after a few heavy windstorms and I've heard that only certain parts of the park are open to the public. It's still worth checking out. I personally like English Bay, Davies Street and Denman Street. There are a lot of little eateries along those streets and it's a nice walk. And again like Pat suggested, Granville Island is a favorite of mine.

Or you could take the ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island.

Bring a lot of $5 bills and dress nicely and go to Brandy's for a good time with some friends. No sneakers or sweatpants... don't dress like a bum, they won't let you in.

If you're into outdoors stuff, there's lots of hiking trails.

Squamish (about 90 mins north of Vancouver downtown) is a world-class destination for rock-climbing and bouldering. Hike around the boulders at the base of the Stawamus Chief, and check out the scene.

Mountainbiking is popular as well, on the north shore, and at the Whistler bike park.
