What to do? Prelude Vtec, Integra GSR

Alright guy I am about to start a new job… downfall is it’s a 120 mile round trip to the facility (for 3-4 months) then I get my own work car…

Well I am trying to plan out my money and such with the Tacoma… well the Taco at the greatest is 18mpg (’98 2.7L, 5sp, 33s, 4.56s, 3” lift, header), I average 15.5 mpg (speed-o corrected). Well doing the math, I would need to fill up ever other day. So the questing of a car came up in the conversion. In the local paper there are two that caught my eye.
1994 Honda Prelude V-tec
1996 Acura Integra GSR (coupe)

Both cars have the following (unless listed below): 5 speed tranny, leather seats, electric windows, cruise, sunroof, and both are the same price.
Prelude: 110k, H22A1 motor (190hp/160tq), 7400 redline, ODB1
Integra: 100k, B18C1 motor (170hp/130tq), 8100 redline, ODB2
Eventually in a year I might throw on the basis bolt-ons for the suspension and engine: shocks, springs strut bars, and a set of 16 or 17s, intake, header, exhaust and pulleys…

So which car would you get and why?

(Don’t worry Taco is going to stay, the “new” car will be my commuter car/toy#2).

I've driven both ('94 Prelude and a '00 Integra Type R) and both are great cars but I'd go with the newer and lower miles Integra since overall parts are easier to come by with the more plentiful Integra and it has a much better and useable backseats.
Ask any specific questions and I might have an answer.

Similar yes but still quite different when comparing backseat room and one is a hatchback which has more useable space when you need it but both cars are great but if it was me the Integra is still the slightly better platform when it comes to the aftermarket since that was the last year of that gen Prelude while the Integra's last year was in '01 hence better aftermarket support.

I would say to make sure that you're going to be spending less on payments, insurance, gas, maintenance on the new car, then you would be spending on gas for the Taco. Otherwise, it makes no sense financially.

If its just a commuter car why bother even buying anything to nice? Call me stupid, but a used corolla would do really well.

I am also going to use the new car for long distance travel also. I want something nice because I just do.

X-AWDriver, Which car would you say had the better handling? How about driver comfort, which one had the better feel?

Both cars are great for driving around town and comfort isn't really an issue and either will handle great but I think the Integras have a slightly shorter wheelbase thus giving a slight edge in handling stock for stock. The Preludes of those years did have a quirky dash layout with a little more digital readouts than I perfer. also check insurance rates since I know there was a big diff with the newer gen Preludes vs Integras.

If I had to choose I'd take the Integra.

just to clarify things, the GS-R and the Type-R are different in the states.

I would go with the GS-R. I dont like the older preludes...its the one with the triangle tails correct?

Insurance will be high I think

Yes,it's the one with those tails. My best friend had a SC'd '00 Type R and thewy are quite a bit different than any of the other Integras but those aren't made to be a daily driver not too mention the theft rate of one left unattended.
Actully almost any year of Integras since '93 are one of the most stolen cars so there is a downside to owning a nicer one and not having a garage to put it in at night.

Me too.

I never really liked the Preludes all that much. You could call my opinion bias since I own '93 Integra coupe but i really love it.

I owned a CRX Si just before i bought Integra and although it was fun to drive, there were just way too many things that i couldn't stand about it.

The '94-'01 Integras are nice but i prefer the "old school" looks of a DA (90-93) plus they have an endless amount of aftermarket mods that can be done for slightly less than a DB (94-01). Either way get the teg!
