What to do in Chicago?

I might be in Chicago in March on business and I might have a day to look around. What's there to do there? Any good sightseeing? I don't think I'll have a rental car so it has to be fairly close to the airport.

Close to the airport?? That sucks. Although O'Hare is a sight to see in its own right. You could ride one of the airport cars through all the terminals!

I don't know, if there's something worth seeing then I might be convinced to get a rental.

you don't need a car ... take the metra to downtown chicago. Go head down michigan ave for some great sighting seeing .. pick up something for the wife/g-friend. Take the free trolley over to Navy pier. Although everything is still kind of closed there till the weather warms up. take trolley back and if your into the mueseum thing, .. the mueseums ae right there as well, and you can also check out the water front .. its gorgeous. After that head back and pick out pretty much any rest. (check out the rest guide based on what type of food you want).

Then you can head out over to lincoln park (where I used to live) and they have great clubs, bars .. and of course must go see wrigley field.

basically the metra will take you everywhere, very easy to use,and pretty cheap too .. and it takes you right into the airport terminal.

I love chicago, and if it wasn't so damn cold, I would probably move there when I got a little older.

C. Trotters

If you can recoup the cost as a business expense go to eat at Charlie Trotters restaurant.

How's the weather at that time? Snowy still? I have no idea, I've lived in Ca my whole life.

If you're into art stuff, check out the Art Institute...it's friggin' awesome. The museum of science and industry is cool too, both in the downtown area. (stuff you could do by yourself)

The public transit and pretty good in Chi-town, save some money on getting a rental, and then having to park it somewhere.

And if you can't write it off check out Gino's East. Best Pizza I've ever had.

I've been there on business a number of times and can say don't even think of driving if you don't have to. Terrible traffic, every road seems to be a toll road, LOTS of pot holes, and terrible road signs (not trying to offend to those who live there). I stayed in Rosemont and traveled the 90/94. That road was under constuction for ever.
A lot of neat stuff to see there though, most near the water front. No one mentioned the Sears tower.
I think the last time I went was in March and it snowed like 24" one night. Don't worry though, they are experts in snow removal.

sdastg1 has the right idea but a little off on the timing. You see it still cold and most likely snowy here in march so stick with the indoor stuff. The Shedd Aquarium is excellent and check out the museums (Art institute, Field Museum, etc). Chicago has some of the best resturants especially tha Pizza
so save some room for that. BTW OHare airport is nowhere near downtown so you will need some transportation.

Hmm...looks like I've got some research to do. I've found the CTA has a train from ohare to downtown so I'll just need to figure out where everything everybody suggested is. I can see blue man group in Las Vegas, although, my brother wasn't impressed. I'll probably see them someday.

That Charlie trotter's looks like someplace I'd have to get dressed up for. I'm from Ca, the only reason I ever wear a suit is for weddings, funerals, or interviews. Shoot, I barely even have any business casual clothes .

I might have to check out the science museum.

I saw BMG in Chicago back in '98... They were friggin' awesome!!

I wouldn't do the Sears tower by yourself, unless you like standing in line by yourself for a while. I guess it depends on how many people are there.

Definitely make it to one of the pizza places though, you'll miss the whole point of goin' to chicago if you don't.
