Viper or Audiovox, which is better?

The factory alarm on my FJ is DOA. I'm looking for an aftermarket fix.

Three local installers all carry the Audiovox Prestige model. Don't let the name fool you, it's the bare bones remote keyless w/alarm model. One installer, Circuit City, also carries the Viper Rattler for $50 less ($160) installed, and they say it's a better unit than the Audiovox.

If it makes a difference, the other installers are Car Toys and Stereo King. None of them instill confidence with their unprofessional manner (lots of "dude, you should get something better for that slammin' rig"). Maybe, but I'm putting the $ into tires instead.

Any thoughts? TIA...

If someone wants your rig, they'll get it. Buy something that makes you feel good in terms of features.

I spent $70 on an alarm/remote entry/remote starter for a friend, installed it myself in about 2 hours, and am very happy with what it does. It has ignition cutout, motion/breakage detector, annoying siren, flashing lights, all that you could ask for.

I spent about twice that on a system for my truck. It has all the above plus a two-way keyfob and a temp sensor. The temp sensor lets me set up the truck to auto-start when the temp falls below a selected temperature. The two-way keyfob adds a "k3wel" factor but it's large in my pocket.

In either case... a thief with a tow truck could take either rig in less than 20 seconds and no one would think twice about it.
