Toyota announces 2005 Scion tC pricing

Pretty aggressive, IMO, especially considering standard equipment. In Europe, this sells as the Avensis and with the top level engine (we get standard) is priced around $23K as a 4-door sedan.

They promised well under $20K

I like it but it does feel like it needs something..
I can't put my finger on it though.

Scion tC looks pretty neat, and for less than $20K is the great bargain. Looks like Toyota is going to hit nail on the head with this one.

It reminds me of an Audi A4. I really like the minimal bodywork, as in NO SPOILER! I hope that's a trend. The 17" wheels are a graphite finish like the optional IS300 wheels, and carry Z rated tires standard.

It's supposed to have a killer, XM ready sound system. I sat in a static display and was extremely impressed with the sport seats, overall interior quality and ergo. Plus, it's JDM built, a plus in my book.

There's no perfect car, and I think tC could go on a diet. Preliminary estimates are 2,925 lbs., maybe due to extra chassis reinforcements to compensate for the standard, huge panorama moonroof. It'll be tough to carve weight out, but the optional TRD S/C should help. No pricing on the S/C yet, but they also promised extremely aggressive pricing for the dealer installed, full warranty package. It'll probably torque steer like mad with the S/C, 200 hp and 210 ft lbs going through the front wheels, so hold on tight! S/C supposed to be available this September. Should be a very good autocross (STX Class w/ the S/C) and track day car with the big brakes.

THis is the 2nd post about autocross. Are you having withdrawal's?

Those TC's are pretty nice, I will have to check one out when they are released in June.

And how. I look at the classing regs each year and try to guess at the next dominant car. I don't think the tC is quite there, but it should be competitive at the regional level.

Hey, everyone wants a Supra, but how many high school or college kids could afford one (tC target)? You could buy two tC's and a Tacoma 4X4 for the price of the last Supra. Still, I jones for one.

I think the real sleeper in SCCA autocross will be the X-Runner. With the F/R chassis, Torsen, 6-speed, VVT-i engine and gummy tires, it should pull through corners well. Just have to run with a full tank to get more weight over the rear axle. Too bad it won't be coming out until nearly season's end.

the xA and xB are pretty fugly. Saw the xB in person Saturday when we bought my wifes car. the tC is pretty slick looking though. I bet they sell a lot of them at that price point. It could be like the Eagle Talon and Mitsubishi Eclipse of the early 00s for kids.

Yeah, guess I could've added "...on their own?" at the end of that.

Some time ago a poll was conducted over on is300.net. It found that over half of the IS drivers on the board were given their cars, insurance, gas, etc., by their parents. But a Supra TT? The insurance alone must've put a dent in the ol' trust fund.

Its easy to get around the insurance thing.

My first car was 300ZX, and it was in his name, and he was the primary driver. Then he bought an 1984 Ford Tempo and put me as the primary driver on that vehicle. We just left it behind one of the offices and just payed the insurance on that for me.

You know, I've never wanted a sports car in my life. They're fun to drive the few times I've gotten to, and as I said in my thread over on the off topic board, it's fun to zoom around in my wifes new car.

Ever since I can remember, as a kid I wanted a Jeep with a winch. I think it's because MacGyver had one and I religiously watched that show.

I smartened up when I saw a FJ40 on a magazine cover in junior high. Fell in love with those rounded rear windows. Makes it all the more bittersweet that I never got my FJ40 up and running and had to sell it.

I guess I need to buy a winch for my 4Runner.

It seems like I'd look like a sissy webwheeler doing the stock-moderate trails with a winch attached.

Still getting a feel for what my car can do before I push what I'm comfortable doing. It's so enticing though at that price.

I'll remember that when I use the winch to pull you out of something at Tellico

Things over moderate require locker(s)...on down the road for me.

What do you think Brian and Mike will be doing? You'll fit right in.

Give into temptation you know you want it. Wife gets a Celica, you should get a winch ... the balance will be restored, and all is good.

Funny, I was going to say its very sad that Toyota is going to copy the market of the Hyundai Tiburon...this is what I thought it was when I saw the pictures.

Herk, you'll need to see one live and then sit in those incredible sports seats. Like said so often, pictures don't do the tC justice. Not that I'm dissing Hyundai, Tiburon is perhaps the best Hyundai example. They did a fine job. However, when comparing apples to apples, as in moonroof and ABS, the Tib comes in almost $5000 more than the $15,950 tC with those standard, and a much more powerful 4-banger. The dealer installed TRD S/C should be an interesting matchup with their optional V-6.

As an unnamed friend who works for Hyundai (and like most is a former Toyota exec) said, there are still Hyundai's in junkyards with the 100K warranty clocks going. They'd kill to sell the forecast 80K first year tC sales. Honda is shaking their heads now that they realize it's $1K+ less than a Civic Si, and I'm almost feeling sorry for Nissan and Mazda. Scion dealers report enough deposits to sell out the first two months production already. This will be an important conquest car, the one dealers have asked for to attract entry-level buyers.

Not that I'm biased or anything, but my tC arrives June 23 and will be the first Scion in the U.S. competing in SCCA sanctioned racing events in the same class as the V-6 Tiburon. We'll see...
