Question torque wrenches

What torque wrench should I invest in? I'm not a wrenchhead so I don't need one w/ lasar guidance or an LCD screen, but also not a Walmart piece. Just a good, accurate, mid-range $, wrench.

Get one from either Craftsman or Snap-on. I have 2 Craftsman: one in inch-lbs and the other in ft-lbs. You can't go wrong with either one.

I'll second the Craftsman idea. I too am only an occas mechanic. However I believe in doing something correctly the 1st time and causing no injury to myself or the runner. Therefore I use torque wrenches to prevent damage to components. I have one from 5-80 ft-lbs and another from 50-250ft-lbs.

Best of Luck
Andrew

I have bought Snap-On torque wrenches off ebay (funny how many entries on the account say PayPal, is there an EBAY annonomous??)
Have a 50-250 ft lbs 1/2", 5-75 ft lbs 3/8"

The 1/2" was $95, the 3/8" was $115 cause it was unused

are there different uses for the 1/2 " and 3/8 " ? Cuz I plan on doing my lift, and to torque the bolts and lugnuts correctly I wanna use a torque wrench (obviously) Which should I use? Do I have to use both?

I have a 3/8" and 1/2" Mac Tools Torque wrenches.

The only problem is that they are expensive.

For the price, you would be best off investing in a craftsman.

Rob:
I used both my 1/2" and 3/8" torque wrenches when doing suspension stuff. I heard that if you either max out or min out a torque wrench, they aren't as accurate (and hard on the wrench itself). For example, I wouldn't use my 3/8" torque wrench on something that requires a 100 ft/lb spec.

Chilton and Haynes should have the torque specs.
What part do you need the specs from? I have a Haynes manual at home.

if you are not heavily working on your rig, they i say just go craftsman. if you have the money, go SK and never look back.

Thanks all for the help. Just purchased a Craftsman 1/2" 20-150 on sale at Sears for $50 (was $70). I figured I would be doing more heavy bolts (ie.- lug nuts and similiar sizes) so I chose the 1/2" instead of the 3/8".
