I cannot believe that they lose so much value in just 2 years.
It wasn't an option but I would really say, save your money. If you really have to have a second car, buy something more practical. Corvette= high insurance & high maintanance.

Buy new unless you found 1 in extremely good low mileage condition but then those are usually kept by the owners cause why loose money on selling such a mint car, but if I was you I would also look at preowned 911 Turbos, 50k can buy a lot but you could remorgage the house with what performance upgrades cost, Corvette is best dollar for performance value on the market and small things increase power the most, just ask any Corvette guys, advance the timing just gave you another 100hp, silly stuff like that.
If you can do it buy new, it's yours and you know from the get go whats the deal plus if your gonna keep it don't worry about the value, mod the hell out of it and take it to the track and find a corvette club, go with a brand new C6 and know that that basic body style will be around for 5-7 years no doubt. The Insurance should not be to bad, I priced 80k cars and for full covererage was an additional 400 a year, my record is clean, remember it's a second car in your name how the hex can you drive both at once, and if you live in snowy areas then you can even insure it for 6 months. You only live once

My Tacoma is my second car. I know about the insurance, also you are required to use Premium Gas but like the TACO, I won't drive it much. Just on nice days with the top down.

I think you'll regret not waiting for the 2006 Z06. That'll give others a year to shake down the semi-new design while the finishing touches are put on the 500+ hp engine and lightweight frame and body. The Z06's hold value better and I thought I read that it'll be available for the first time in both coupe and convertible, but I might be wrong about that. There are some very knowledgeable enthusiasts over at www.corvetteforum.com, and some good deals on used cars with full histories.

I'll agree with waiting a year on the C6, let them shake out the bugs. Only problem with used Vettes is you dont know what was done to them before. Someone like me could have gotten in it and dumped the clutch a couple times just to see how much smoke it'd make.

I drove a 2003 vette not too long ago and I wasn't the bit impressed. It seriously didn't seem that fast. Don't get me wrong though, it would get up and go, but I've drove way faster cars that cost way less......
But if I had my mind set on corvette, I'd wait to get a new one.

Either you dont know how to drive or you were driving a Chevette. 0-60 in 4.8 is slow? 350Z 0-60 is 5.5, Evo is 4.8. Cant think of anything that costs WAY less thats faster than that.

Better clutch in the EVO or an STi will hit under 4.5 secs 0-60 but then again that isn't stock and those cars don't look as cool as a new C6 does sitting parked. I personally did 4.3 secs to 60 in my Eclipse and had a half second on a Z06 in the 1/4 up here in Denver but I'd take the Vette anyday of course.
Wait a year and buy a slightly used C6 (5000 miles or less) and save a few thousand and I think you'll be happy.

My vote is to buy a new C6.
I bought my All-Trac used, and will never buy a used sports car again!

I would either buy a used C5 (maybe a Z06 if you want C6-like performance) or wait and buy a used C6.
I just can't see myself ever buying a brand new car. They're a ripoff IMHO, and as reliable as today's cars are there's no reason to take that depreciation hit. |

I would certainly wait for the Z06 if made in convertible. I want a covertible if possible. If the Z06 has 100 more horsepower, I'll wait for that too. When I get the thing (and I will get it) I am going to drive it to California on Route 66. Always wanted to do that. I just don't know how I'm going to get it home.

Or do you just not want to repeat the drive on the way back? I could understand that, but if I had a Vette I think I could bring myself to do it! There are companies that specialize in auto transport, but it's expensive from what I hear. |

I personally can't stand vettes, just because you see them on every street corner. Plus they are usually driven by old fat bald guys, or chic's. Then there's the chevy thing. Granted Chevy finally, after 50 years, made one with some good performance numbers, which "now" makes them a good bang for your buck, I still wouldn't waste my money on one. The vert won't of course, unless it has some work done. To answer your question though, I'd have to know what your looking for exactly. If your looking for a sporty vert to cruise around in that has some american heritage, and you plan on keeping it for some time. Go buy a new one. If your looking for a stock fast sports car, I think you can spend you money on something better. Shoot, like some one already said, go drop $50k on a used convertible porsche turbo. Or forget the turbo, I'd still take it over the vette. At least that would be the only porsche I'd see on the way home from work.
fpkelly, I've driven a friends Z06, and I have to agree with data it didn't "feel" as fast as it was. But you're probably referring to a mag stat as well. Not an ordinary driver, who hops into a z06 for the first time. |

I can't wait to see the new Z06 and what they will nail up here at 5800ft since the "old" ones were good for about 13.6 with a good driver in stock trim.

I'm not a corvette guy, so I can't comment much on this car versus that one. But I will say this... go with your heart, now your wallet. If you clearly like one better than the other, go with the one you like best. Most people who buy corvettes have the money to do it right... and don't need it as their primary driver.
Do it once... do it right the first time. That way you don't have to worry about selling the car you bought 3 months ago so you can get the one you really want.

After reading the areticles being made about the new C6 (eventhough american car journalists suck and only talk about good stuff and like everything) I wouldn't even consider a C5. There is something about owning a new car though. Its YOURS, and nobody elses. Everything WORKS, you have a WARRENTY, there are no little things that you just deal with like rattles etc. Which is something I would worry about in a vette, aaaall plastic. Personally, I would rather have a Caddy CTS V or GTO and put an S/C in it because everyone knows stock sucks.
![]() Though, when it comes down to it... you are going to love whatever you get, unless its a complete lemon but after driving a taco that thing is going to feel like driving $1million. good luck! |
