think i killed my computer...

So i was installing rise of nations, and it finishes installing. It gives you the usuall BS about restarting your computer or it could screw up your computer. I say to bad, and i try to play. I get a bunch of system errors and then it starts up.

Well i play for a while, do the tutorials, and then try a world campaign, it crashes to desktop. So i go ahead and restart my computer. Now my AIM will not work, it crashes upon getting up, and neither will Slimbrowser (Internet Explorer look-alike). So i try and do a System Restore, that doesnt work either.

My friend had given me a old HD the other day, so i begin to put that in fearing, if worse comes to worst, I can swap over my critical files onto the other HD, and reformat. Well I boot it up and it says that it found a new HD and all, but theres no icon for it in my computer. So i pull the side off and wiggle around the cords to make sure i had them in right. I accidently knocked the power cord out of my internal zip drive, and I heard like a reboot sound, and i look up and my monitor is black and the Power LED is blinking, like its not getting a signal from my video card. But the No Signal Box isnt bouncing around the screen like it normally does.

Anyone have any ideas? Im having to use my dads computer to surf yotatech, and its a slow beast...

Heres my specs.

AMD Athalon 1100mhz
512 133mhz SDRAM
20gig HD (Primary)
20gig HD (secondary - dont know if this works yet)
Windows XP

Thanks guys, not sure really what to do, my computer nerd friend is still hungover so it may be a while before he gets his butt over here.

First off... where did you get that game from? Sounds like it came off Kazaa and had a few "viruses" in it. My old roommate did that once and his computer was never the same again. I told him he had to reformat but he didn't want to.

If that's not it, try removing it and see what happens. Some older games use drivers that won't work well with XP. It could very well mean that the game install replaced certain drivers that were also being used by other programs, such as AIM.

About the hard drive, you have to enable it in XP's disk management area. Click here and follow steps 1-3. You should then be able to see the hard drive. Never mind what the site says it's for... it'll work just the same for yours. Whether or not you follow the rest of the steps is up to you.

As for the zip drive... I have no idea what you did. I hope you didn't short anything out. Will it still boot up?

I got Rise of Nations from Electronic Frys, so not Kazaa unfortunatly, Free games are always better but, alas i payed $30. It was PC Gamers Editors Choice, 10/10 Max PC rating, its by Microsoft, so I dont think it was any of the drivers or anything, came out in 2003 so not that old.

However my computer does not boot up anymore. When i turn it on the monitor is black and the power light just flashes green, my regular power down button on the CPU doesnt work, I have to turn it off on the back, not sure why, it usually works, I hope i didnt fry my board.

By the sounds of things I would guess Power Supply or loose wires going from it to the MB check the connectors and if that dosen't work unplug all the connectors off your Accessories like HD and ZIP drives one of them maybe shorting out now and causing the power supply to to fire up all the way. guess worste case might be the MD fried. Also check to be sure all your cards are seated in all the way into their slots a vidio card half way out can causing wierd things.

Then I have no idea about the game. I guess your best bet is to re-format.

About the PC, you might have fried your power supply. Will it still come on?

Disconnect everything you don't need to boot.

All you really need is motherboard, processor, memory, power supply and videocard so you can see what's going on.

Fire it up with those things connected. If you don't see anything on the screen as it boots, I'd try a different video card first, and then go from there.

Im in the process of settng up the new hard drive, then going to uninstall, but i tried to watch a movie, and it said that the date on my windows media player was set to 2165, which may cause it to crash, set the date to 2037 or before. Anyone know how i can remedy that?

Did you try the simple thing of just resetting the clock to the right time and date, If memory serves me right there were a few problems with games and application working if the clock on the computer was way out of whack.

RON is a sweet game!
I play with friends of mine all over the world (I just create a game and they join it).
Been too busy with school for a while now to have any fun with it as of recent.
