i ask b/c if a vehicle's name after a city, people might/will buy it just to support their town. its like a sports team, where ever you live, you usually follow/root for your home team. i wonder if the durangos, colorados, tahoe/yukons, denalis, dakotas, sequoia, etc, sell well in their respective cities...

There's only one snag to this line of thinking... the Toyota "Tacoma" was not named after the city of Tacoma in Washington State.
Both the city and the truck were named after Mt. Rainier, at 14,411ft, the tallest point in Washington. Yes, you read that right. Before Captain George Vancouver reached Puget Sound in 1792, became the first European to see the mountain and named it in honor of his friend, Rear Admiral Peter Rainier, the Native Americans in the area had long called The Mountain "Tahoma". Along the way, the name "Tahoma" was anglicized and we ended up with the name "Tacoma". There are several ideas about what the name "Tahoma" originally meant and the justifications behind those stories are fascinating to read, but I favor and place the most weight behind the definition; "white giant" for the mountain's obvious prominence over the horizon from Portland to Vancouver Island.
