So I'm moving from San Diego to Ft. Collins, Co

I've been throwing the idea around for a while with my wife about leaving Southern California for a bit easier of a life somewhere else, and the time has come.

I got a really good job offer in Ft. Collins, so we'll be moving out there as soon as I can find a house. Hopefully we'll be there by the end of April.

We are mostly moving for quality of life issues. I love my job here, but with my wife and I both having really excellent jobs here, we still don't stand a chance to buy a home. We have a baby on the way, and I'm sure another one to follow her soon, so a two bedroom apartment is getting to be out of the question.

I went out and visited Ft. Collins a month or so ago on my interview, and I just loved the town. I'm not a big fan of Denver (the city) or Denver (the football team), but I can get over it (the former, not the latter). Go Chargers!

Looking at houses, it appears that the cost of living is going to be around 10000% less, so I think we are just going to have a more comfortable life out there.

I'm going to miss San Diego, with all the fun things to do, and all the great people. I'm going to miss the SD crew here on Yotatech, and miss my constant trips out to Anza Borrego. Now I'm REALLY glad I didn't decide on Long Travel, probably not much use for it in CO!

I am looking forward to meeting the Colorado crew, and seeing new offroading spots out there.

I'm not leaving this forum by any means, just moving locations.

Once again, I'll miss you SD yotatech guys... even Seth, the gay one!

Have a good time in CO. I hope you don't freeze. You are always welcome to join us in the desert when the winters there are too harsh.

haha, I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm more of a cold weather guy anyway. I'm now going to be able to drive to Steamboat in 3 hours, vs. Mammoth in 7 hours. I'll take that trade in!

I'm sure I'll be back here to offroad at somepoint.

Fort Collins is terrible.

The snow is rarely heavy, the temps are seldom cold and we are far enough from Denver to feel like a real city.

Holler when you get here, there are some good folks in town.

Wow, didn't notice you were from Ft. Collins. I'll be sure and let you know when I get into town. So far I love the town, and the prices! You guys don't know how good you have it at bars, I couldn't believe that non-happyhour beers were only $3.50. Downtown here, you're lucky if you find something under $5.00 or $5.50

$1.75 for a pint? Knowing South Carolina, that's probably just natty ice on tap eh?

j/k

Congrats on moving to Co. I moved out here from Ohio and Colorado is stuck with me. I lived in Avon for a year when I was a kid in 2nd grade and always wanted to be back here. I live in Colorado Springs and its cool.

I grew up in San Diego and have lived in NC and OH, but CO is my favorite BY FAR. Contrary to popular belief, the winters here aren't bad (well, this one was...) and there's actually MORE days of sun here than San Diego. GORGEOUS sunrise/sunsets (none of that damn "marine layer" crap). And as you have mentioned, much more reasonable cost of living and less traffic/crowding.

I'm just down the road in Longmont - be sure to let us know when you're coming out!

And yes, I am in favor of you leaving SoCal. Vote with your feet. California has become become a pinko commie, socialist, nanny, "you are the proles", overrun with illegals, state. In other words, may it be nuked first.

However, Norcal (north of the bay) is ok.

Look on the bright side, when global warming comes, LA and SFO will be underwater but us here in Colorado will be basking in the high housing prices with the transplants come flooding in begging for housing. Oh, do I sound jaded? Sorry, way too late at night.

My biggest concern that caused me to pick up and move was cost, but certainly other things helped the decision become easier. The California gun laws are ridiculous (Constitution anyone?), the absolute corruption in San Diego (Enron by the sea), the fact that EVERYTHING costs more here because of the threat of lawsuits ( Penske truck from SD to CO $1800, from Phoenix to CO $600 ), and dumb laws being passed like the anti-spanking law which would make spanking your child illegal (wtf?).

I won't miss the constant fear that my truck is going to get parted out or stolen and taken to Mexico either.
