Salmon/Steelhead tackle advice needed

My usual fishing excursion involves Safeway. This year will be different. I've decided to give it a shot after years away from the sport. I'll be fishing from shore or with waders along the Columbia and Sandy rivers. The fish probably have little to fear, but I'd like to improve the odds a bit.

What should I get? Which websites for tips, tricks and deals? Any clubs around the Portland, OR or East County area? Would it help to go with a guide at first? TIA...

www.gamefishin.com -- you can find me as chum man on there. www.ifish.net is a little more oregon oriented, but an excellent resource as well.

i don't even know where i'd start on tips and tackle. it's all about personal preference, so i'd suggest browsing around those forums.

Thanks Kyle. I also found a few fishing group meetings listed in the sports section of the statewide paper featuring guest speakers and guided tours.

Cabela's! If you have any questions just call them up and ask to speak to a product specialist... they will help you with anything... and its 100% customer satisfaction... send anything back... even if it breaks 10 years from now lol... I use to work there... some guy returned some 10 year old books because they started to leak... got a brand new pair... I back them 100%... also sign up for a catelog from there...

I hate it when my books leak. I was reading "A River Runs Through It" one time and it started to leak on me.
