Angry Road Rage

Thought I might querry the audience to see if anyone suffers as I do from road rage. I don't think personality has much to do with it either. My wife is the most laid back, quiet, pushover, compliant person I know, but when she gets behind the wheel - Oh! My! God! Its hysterical!

I have no patience for anyone on the road. You wanna drive the speed limit, fine, do it in the right lane. You wanna turn, fine, GET IN THE EFFING TURN LANE!!! And why can't people understand directional parking?! See that arrow on the pavement, that means traffic goes that way, not both ways! I love watching these retards go the wrong way and then try to make a 20 point turn into a spot.

And what's with people stopping in the acceleration lane??!!!

Can anyone identify with me on this??

San Diego is really bad with this...

Apparently the city has grown much faster than the city planners thought so rush hour traffic out here is murder.

I've actually done this:
Get on a road and see the huge line ahead of me. See a few cars make a U and head another way... I follow.

I get to the next route I think will be better and see another huge line ahead of me. See a few cars make a U (hey, didn't I see him before?) and head another way... I follow.

I get to another route that is sure to be the best way around and see another line ahead of me. See a few cars make a U (whoa, there he is again!) and head another way... I follow.

Finally, I take the longest and most roundabout way all around traffic to my destination and MAYBE make it there in the same amount of time it would have taken me to wait. But hey, who wants to wait in a line?

Road rage... well, how's that saying go?

Why is everyone who drives faster than you a maniac and everyone who drives slower than you is a moron?

I've got a HUGE case of road rage. It's mainly directed towards tailgaters, I can't stand them!!! Where I live there are a lot of "not nice women" in their SUV's. They ALL suck at driving. Now I'm not saying that all women drive bad, just around my area they do!!!

yeah, i hear ya.

i have no patience for moron drivers. i hate tailgaters, yet sometimes i'll tailgate a slow driver for a little while just to get them a message (i'm such a hyprocrite huh). if they let you pass, they're cool. if not, not much you can do but back off and wait it out.

and i hate it when people don't use their turn signals to signal a turn or lane change. that' just common coutresy.

i think there should be a new lane on freeways, kinda like a car pool lane, but you have to have a sepcial licene to drivin in it. only those who actually know how to drive could get it. there would be no speed limit. accidents would probably be low because all the people in it are smart about their driving and don't make stupid mistakes like slowing down to 2 miles per hour to rubberneck at an accident scene like they haven't ever seen an accident before.

Old people who drive too slow and pull out in front of you on the highway. In all honesty, if you gotta drive that slow, you shouldn't be driving at all.

I try to not let it bug me. I hate people that don't signal turns and lane changes. I put fender repeater turn signals on my truck. I want everyone to know what i'm trying to do. I passed over a few motorcycles that didn't have signals for one that had them and a BIG brake light. I added a 3rd brake light on my truck also.

My truck is slow. I stay in the right lane unless I am behind someone REALLY slow. If someone tailgates me in the slow lane i'm likely to give them an invisible brake check... downshifting suddenly to slow quickly without touching the pedal and lighting the brake lights. If that dosen't work i'll do it again, downshift and brake hard. I'll be more than happy to have your insurance pay for a fancy new custom rear bumper for me. Your fancy shiney car with special headlights and expensive body parts is none of my concern, go right ahead and drive into the back of me if you must. Idiots!!

On that parking thing, I If i'm going the wrong way down a lane I will either back into the spot or, if there is someone behind me, i'll pass up the spot and go around. So often the arrows are worn away that I quit looking for them.

Regarding parking, I hate people that try to fit into one space but end up with a bunch of their vehicle hanging out into one or more other spaces. The people that feel they deserve two spaces to avoid door dings better take two that are so far away that no one else would want one by them.

Talk about eery...

2 hours after I post a message on this thread I'm driving home at a conservative 45 miles per hour. Suddenly this ittybitty hatchback doesn't feel like waiting for a bus to load passengers in front of him and from an almost dead stop, he cuts into my lane 10-15 ft ahead of me.

NOBODY can stop that fast. Of course I slam on my brakes but there's nothing stopping what's going to happen... I keep going and I'll rip his POS into nothing, probably wreck up my truck pretty good too and most likely be sued for every thing I own. Veer right and I hit a bus...

So I veer left into suicide lane, only to find the island with a good sized curb starting right in front of me. I've never taken one of these at 40 miles per hour and didn't want to find out the hard way. I veer away from this and find myself in the opposing lane of traffic

Luckily, I'd noticed that there was a break in the traffic and managed to throw myself into a driveway right as cars were starting to pass from a just-turned green signal.

*whew*

As I wait for the traffic to pass so that I can get the hell out of that driveway, I see the hatchback not even slow down and take off on the open road.

Road rage? Damned fool is lucky I never caught up to him...

BUT this does justify my modding my suspension to take an island at 45 no problem, right?

This works more often in the summer time .... but I carry a super-soaker with me sometimes ... then when I get pissed off, and the other guy's window is open, you just shoot water into his car.

It's hilarious, w/no permanent damage. just make sure you have gas in your tank, I've had a few people follow me around trying to get back at me. =)

I think with everything thats going on in the world right now,and how terrified alot of people are re: terrorist attacks and similar things.... that could be a VERY bad idea.

i have a very bad problem with it, in fact there have been times where I really wish the other driver would stop so I can get out and clock them.

I actually followed someone home one time and then stopped mid way thinking to myself "what the hell am I doing?"

It's unfortunate that bad drivers really bring out the rage in all of us.

That seems to be the easy way out for me also, but sometimes I get stuck behind old people

Man, y'all aren't kidding! I drive ~200 miles round trip to work every day. Trust me - I've seen all kinds of morons out there.

NOTHING irritates me more than people who drive the speed limit (or just over) in the fast lane. Just because you're going 75 in a 70, you DON'T have the right to "stay" in the fast lane. I don't care HOW fast you're going, you pass and get back over! If you're doing 150 and someone comes up behind you at 175, you get over, let them pass, and continue on. Things would be much easier if people didn't try and overtake cars by going 1mph faster than the guy they're passing. I know it's hard work, but step on the gas and speed up just a little so the rest of the world can get around you - a cop isn't going to pull you over and give you a ticket for going 75 in a 70...as soon as you get around the slower guy, feel free to pull back over and continue to do 70.0001mph.

Also, if you see a cop, don't slam on the brakes. Thing that gets me most about this is that the people that do it seem to be the ones that are going right on the speed limit!

As far as really wanting to go after someone, the last time I got REALLY mad (like shaking and crap) was because someone pulled a "Tacoma Dude" on me. I was in my old truck (2000 Ford Lightning) doing 60 down a 4-lane road with a stoplight on it. There was a line of traffic in the right lane (I was in the left lane), but my lane was clear. As I approached the light, it turned green (I was going 55 or so), so I kept on moving. Some IDIOT in a Neon Expresso thought that the laws of physics didn't apply to me (or he didn't even look) and just whipped it over into my lane. By this time, I was only about 15 yards away from him. I locked it up and damn near put my foot through the floor. The ONLY way I didn't nail this guy was because I was in my L - anything else and I would have run him smooth over. Kicker was, he must've looked up and saw me right on his ass, because he HIT THE FINKIN' BRAKES like he was trying to "teach me a lesson" or something. I thought about running him down for about 30 seconds (1/2 tank of gas and ~450hp - he was going NOWHERE), but figured it just wasn't worth it. I guess the older I get the more glad I am that I didn't do it....

going to work saturday, i get stuck behind some old guy trying to merge at 15 FRIGGIN MILES AN HOUR!!!!!!! that is dangerously slow on i-80 in the morning. i hate doing less than 70, and my truck barely hits 70. i really wonder how some people get their drivers licenses. it doesnt help having no horn and a short temper. i just stick my head out and start yelling at people. i hate people that cant drive. i have had to swerve off the road at 60, and have jumped curbs at 45 (it is physically and mentally painfull to both you and the truck Tacoma Dude). that curb led to a bend tie rod and trashed ball joints. what did the girl who cut me off do? took off. didnt even stop to see if i was alright after ending up in a cornfield stopped.

If would've been a 5.4L, it would have at least spit a plug or sent a rod through the block - oh wait, they do that anyway...

I know that everyone knocks Fords. But are they really all that bad? I have a friend of mine that has over 200,000 on his 1995 extended cab and it still has the original 5.0, tranny, and rear end. Also, I don't know what the newer Toyotas do about overheating, but I know that the 5.4L injects air into alternating cylinders if the engine gets too hot so that it won't overheat.

If you look at Consumer Reports, Fords are actually rated better than Chevy's. Here in Texas, Chevy's are THE big thing. Everyone has one. Hell, I've even looked at buying one.

Don't get me wrong here, I know that Toyotas are built better than a Ford anyday, thats why I drive one. Do you think that Fords have as many problems as they do because people drive them harder and don't take care of them as well as the owners of Toyotas?
Just a thought.

As for the Road Rage thing, I had this dumbass girl try to pass a semi on a two lane highway while I was coming in the opposite direction. There obviously wasn't enough time for her to make the pass. I ended up swerving onto the shoulder to avoid hitting her (I'm glad there was a shoulder). I bet a head-on at 70 miles per hour would have hurt a little.

This other time I was driving my dad's suburban, and some other dumbass girl in an eclipse tried to swerve over to get off the highway while I was already getting on. I had to swerve hard to keep her back end from clipping the front of the truck. There's nothing like hearing the tires squeal at 65 miles per hour.

Isn't it funny that almost all of our stories involve GIRLS?

My roommates and I said the SAME EXACT thing about the additional license!!

I HATE tailgaters as well. I rigged up a switch that turns on my reverse lights just for them. I try not to tailgate though since I have HIDs and the beam pattern isn't like it's supposed to be, and it's actually not bad, but I DO tailgate people who cut me off, ESPECIALLY the ones who don't signal and cut me off

The lack of turn signals is one of my pet peeves. The other is bad woman drivers who drive cars too big for them. And another are people on cell phones who don't pay attention to their driving cause they're on the phone. So, you can imagine how I felt when I was driving along the other day on the freeway and had to slam on my brakes as a woman driver on a cell phone wandered into my lane, without using her turn signal, in a huge S500 Benz She was also an really aggresive driver because she was weaving a lot, and I was trying to get around her because she wasn't paying much attention, and she ended up cutting me off like 3 times. I was pretty pissed I didn't do anything though, just sped past her and was glad to be rid of her stupid a$$.

Don't take it the wrong way - I LOVED my old truck, but got tired of the constant issues (or threat of issues) with it. I know it was a special edition and didn't really have the engineering background as some of the other, more mass produced trucks on the road, but my big problem is the way that Ford treated us after some of these problems started showing up.

It all started back in the Summer of 2000. I got my truck on March 28th (after a 9 month wait). Starting that Summer, some of the 99s started having trouble with leaking intercoolers. After several months, we (the members of www.f150online.com) started noticing that the majority of our trucks were losing intercooler fluid (it was leaking into the intake/engine). By then, we knew it was a pretty widespread problem - out of 5K trucks built a year, we figured that ~60% had this problem. We started fighting with Ford, but they refused to do anything until several of the members got together and threatened a class action lawsuit. Finally, in the Summer of 01 or so, there was a national recall issued on all Lightning intercoolers. Several of us had ours replaced 2, 3, or 4 times before for was able to get it right.

Another big issue with us (and regular f150s as well) was the door cracks. Due to poor engineering, the sheet metal on the doors of many trucks was cracking - litterally tearing itself apart. There's a picture at http://www.f150online.com/forums/sho...ght=door+crack. This is the very beginning of one - they can grow to 2" or so if left unchecked. Again, after a lot of fightning, Ford finally issued a recall to have this fixed.

Our foglights are an issue, too. They're all cracking INTERNALLY because of an engineering flaw, but Ford is refusing to warranty them and saying that we're taking hits from rocks and road debris. This is obviously BS - so much so that some of the better dealerships have started replacing fog lights at THEIR expense because they don't agree with Ford. I know I personally replaced 3 complete sets in the 2 years I had my truck. http://www.f150online.com/forums/sho...hreadid=112629

The engine -
The 5.4 has it's share of problems, too. You see, all 5.4s come with aluminum heads and, because of another engineering brain fart, only have 4 threads to hold in the spark plugs. I know it's an "across the board" 5.4 issue, but the Lightning owners are seeing it more and more because of the increased compression/cylinder pressure we're running. http://www.f150online.com/forums/sho...threadid=53172 Again, Ford is denying that there is a problem and is going AGAINST the Moss Magnuson Warranty Act and voiding warranties for minor mods (aftermarket air filter kit, throttle bodies, etc) - basically daring individuals to sue them. Funny thing is, they're STILL denying that there's a problem with the '97 and up heads, yet redesigned the heads for '03 to add more "sparkplug-contacting" threads. It's a crapshoot - if you have an '03 with heads built after 11-12-02 you're fine, but if your '03 has the "old" heads you're screwed and will probably have your warranty voided when your plug(s) blow(s) out.

There's also an issue with the rods in the engine. Several owners have blown their engine because one of their rods "separated." We're finding that they're not breaking on the compression stroke, but are literally pulling apart on their way up. Again, I know Lightning rods/pistons are different from regular trucks, but Ford is blaming the problem on us, saying that minor mods are causing the problem. Thing is, a good percentage of the trucks that throw rods are BONE STOCK. One guy was even looking to "trade up" to a newer model Lightning but decided against it AFTER THE TRUCK HE WAS TEST DRIVING THREW A ROD AND "VENTILATED THE BLOCK."

We're now starting to see evidence that the main bolts are backing out. http://www.f150online.com/forums/sho...ts+backing+out You can tell that these things aren't stripped out in the second picture - they're simply backing out on their own. Imagine what one of those would do when it drops off inside the block. Also keep in mind that these are the same supercharged 5.4L engines that are in '02 and up Harley Davidson trucks, as well. Thing is, you aren't hearing as much on the Harley trucks because of their association with Harley Davidson. Ford is doing everything in their power to keep the HD stuff hush hush so the HD brand won't have all this crap associated with it.

Final thing - I PROMISE. Even with all of these problems, Ford has now started sending out inspectors on EVERY SVT blown engine warranty claim. Ford KNOWS that there is a problem, but instead of trying to fix it, they'd rather stick us in the butt and void warranties for minor mods. I guess it's all a part of business and trying to save a business that is on the verge of going under.

Oh well - I've been going on and on and on, now. I've got to get some work done. It's just really sad to see this crap from Ford. We, the SVT owners, are supposed to be the "elite" to Ford. Limited edition, high performance, high price - low priority. Ford has and still is treating us like the red-headed stepchild. Of course, that's not to say that I won't buy another Ford SVT product in the future. Owning the Lightning was one of the best opportunities I've ever had - the feeling of driving a truck that will run with the quickest sports cars around is AMAZING. Like someone else said - my next Ford will just come with the cheaper "warranty delete" option...why pay for something you don't get anyway.

Maybe now y'all understand why my signature says what it says - I'm not TOUCHING my Sequoia - it's staying stock as a rock until the wheels fall off. I've had enough fun in no-warranty mod land to last me a few lifetimes.
