Richard Simmons vs. Ultimate Fighter in Phx. - GET IT AWN
Richard Simmons cited for slapping man
Police said Richard Simmons slapped a man after telling him, "You shouldn't make fun of people who have issues." Republic staff, wire reports March 25, 2004 Exercise guru Richard Simmons allegedly slapped a man who made a sarcastic remark about one of his videos, Phoenix police said. Police cited the fitness guru on suspicion of assault Wednesday night after he reportedly slapped an ultimate cage fighter across the face inside a Sky Harbor International Airport terminal. Simmons, the outlandish 55-year-old known for his raucous exercise videos and boisterous personality, slapped the 6-foot-2, 250-pound athlete after the man reportedly made a derogatory remark about Simmons, Phoenix police Lt. Lowell Spalla said. "He made a comment, something to the effect of, 'Hey, look everybody, it's Richard Simmons. Why don't you drop your stuff and start dancing to the oldies?' " Spalla said. "Simmons approached him and said, 'You shouldn't make fun of people who have issues' and then he slapped him." The unidentified man asked police to file charges against Simmons, who was cited and released before boarding a flight. Simmons was permitted to board his flight after he was cited. ________________________________ I think there should be a rematch ![]()

It's too bad the 250lb guy couldn't have threw Mr. Simmons across the terminal:the guy is an annoying geek.

Would that be battery or assault?

Battery = unwanted touching
Assault = a physical attack (I think that's the way it goes, I don't remember for sure) In either case I guess it's battery ![]() |

If the ultimate fighter would have ripped Simmons apart, he would have been the only one going to jail. Obviously it would not have been self defense. I think the ultimate fight dude showed a lot of restraint. That's cool I guess.

almost peter...
assault - threatning to attack, making someone fear imminent bodily injury, attack
battery - the actual attack, the physical hit

Good for Richard! He must actually have some balls after all!
I think it's funny the big, bad fighter is filing a battery complaint against, of all people, Richard Simmons. Sounds like the fighter was a jerk, and unable to respond when somebody called him on it. My guess is the people with issues he mentioned were the people who buy his videos.
