I've killed everything from So Cal mountian and valley quail, pheasant, and ducks, with #6 shot with my SKB O/U 20 gauge. And I shoot full and modified chokes.

But thats just me.

Al, I'm sure your going to enjoy which ever gun you choose.

If it was me, I'd go with the Remington, just on reputation and quality. I own several 700 and 788 Remington hunting rifles...in both ADL and BDL configurations. I don't know much of the Browning's.....except for the price!

the remington is a great overall use gun, especially for modifications for home defense. and probably the most popular s/a shotgun to boot. the browning would be best for hunting or target practice only, and hold its value a little better.

in my mind you can't have a hunting gun and a home defense gun in one package. you want a short barrel for home defense so you don't get hung up on objects, but that would kill its accuracy for longer range.

personally i'd go with the browning.

Al

Well i've been looking at the Wingmaster and i think that's the way i'll go.

It's got the simplicity and reliability that the 870 is known for but its built better, some of the cheaper parts have been made better.. machined instead of moulded, aluminum instead of plasic, etc.

Plus its a fine looking gun with a walnut stock and pump and blue finish.

Thanks for your opinions guys

I have a remington 870 Express super magnum pump action 12 ga. Great gun. Very reliable. low maintenance. easy to clean. I would doubt if there is any other shotgun that has been produced as many times as the Rem. 870 Express.

I agree with you here Al..

Personally for a home defense gun I like to be able to shoot ambidextriously and I don't like the 870's style safety, Hence why I like a Mossberg 500/590 style safety that I can reach with either left or right thumb.
I miss combat shotgunning

For hunting, my Remington model 32 O/U, been in the family for over 75 years is awesome.

but the 870 is a good gun...just if you are gonna use it for home defense don't use slugs unless you live alone...they tend to go through walls and apartments
