Just get a deck like mine that can read .mp3's
I *can* get something like 12 hours of music on one CD With your system, you aren't really burning .mp3's to disc, you are converting them, then making a standard audio disc. Quality suffers that way because the tracks were converted to .mp3, then converted back to .wav.I use a version of "Audio Catalyst" that will do what you are asking for, but I just use it to rip CD's into .mp3 format, then when I have 700 mb worth, I dump them to CD.

iTunes will do this for you very easily, you don't have to convert your MP3s to WAVs. As for Nero, check here http://www.nero.com/en/631933327150036.html

I like to use winamp because i can listen to the songs and compile a list to make it close to 80 mins then just switch plugins to the one that makes wav files. I like this method and dont think its extra work but i believe nero has a built in encoder/decoder (i forget which is which) to do it without conversion first.

You can use the MKW Audio Compression Tool, specify a folder to decode to, and just drag your files to the window and let it go. Then burn with Nero.
I mainly use that program to decode .shn files that I download with Bit Torrent to .wav files. I've never tried to decode an mp3 but it should work like it says it will.

Just pick Audio CD if your using the wizard, can just drag and drop files into the new window side or use the browse and add them that way.

![]() Yeah I know, I have been converting them back to WAV files. The simple program I use is on my website here. Very cool little ap, you just have to dig out the WAV files, as it converts them to the root of the folder in which you set the program up. There is no setup file for it, you just create a folder, then make a shortcut to it on your Start menu. Thanks for the link Kronicx, I had not seen that before. Churnd, that ap you mention sounds a lot like mine, as all it does is convert them, then you use Nero to burn with. I was using another ap that came with my old burner on my old PC. Have not made an audio disc yet with the new PC. Since I have Nero, might as well use it. |

Pssssssst
Getting Humble Pie's "I dont' need no doctor", and I just realized something I did not know about the band.
In Windows Media Player 9 you can click on the pic of the MP3 or album as it's playing, and more info will show up in the Media Player (this I already knew). Peter Framptom was on guitar for that album (Rockin' the Fillmore) you learn something new every day. If you wanna hear some early Frampton, listen to that song. |

The Musicmatch Jukebox is one program that I know of that'll do the conversion on the fly. Don't know how well it actually burns though, quality wise.

I like Nero for burning my CDs. Having that graphic display on the bottom showing how much space is available before burning the CD is very helpful.

I use WMA files with Windows Media Player 9 Series. Kicks butt - but I may be biased. I don't even do MP3 anymore.

Feurio! burns on the fly, and if you don't mind nag screens, the trial works 100%.
It'll even burn .mp3s that aren't 44.1khz which cds have to be by converting them up or down. Bill

Humble Pie has quite the history! Frampton really got his chops goin' in this band. It's sad that he was(is) downplayed so much through most of his career 'cause of That Live Album and the "stadium anthem" era he got trapped in. He's quite the guitarist. Check out the post Frampton Pie album "Smokin'". It's full of wonderful classic tracks.

Nero works...
Nero worked great, I used the Nero Smart Start and choose CD, then audio, then it fired up the Burning Rom.
I dragged the files from the right window to the left and got 17 songs on just a hair under 80 minutes. It does indeed convert them on the fly to WAVs so you can play it in any CD player. However, take a lookie here. The songs have no names, and I did follow the PDF file in the Nero URL that was posted earlier, but no text shows up for the songs. Any work arounds??? Burned two copies. One at 12x which took about 6 minutes, and then at 24x. It only took about 3 minutes. So fast...I am use to my old HP burner from several years ago where the max burn speed was mucho slower. |

Given that you started from MP3's, and then had Nero & MP order them up into a CD, the signature won't match anything. The track order and track times will be off - plus the song data is no longer on a CD. The algorithm to generate the signature also uses CD TOC (Table Of Contents) info. Now, if the MP3's originally had the track info embedded in them as tags, then there's a different problem. While it's possible for a WAV file to hold extra info about the track, it's not common to find an app that supports it. It's kindofa funky extension to the format. So, when Nero reconstituted the MP3s as WAVs in order to prep for CD burning, it most likely threw away the extra info. Even so... I don't think Nero's integrated into MP's song library, so it won't ("can't") update the database as it's bringing the files across. sideline... Does your burner have underrun protection? If not, be sure to check the 24x copy for dropouts. A 24x burn is a pretty good data rate to sustain for long periods of time. Without underrun protection you may end up with dropouts.

Thanks for the info Mark.
Not sure on my burner. It was the best on the market when I got it in September, but you know the minute you buy any PC related thing it's already outdated. It's the Sony DRU 510A. Now listen to this... I already knew you can rip tracks from an audio disc with Windows Media Player, but I did not know you could make a playlist and burn MP3s to WAVs to disc. I high lighted the same 17 songs in Explorer I had just burned with Nero, and chose copy to playlist. I had to make a new folder, but afterwards in MP I hit the "burn" button and it converted them over, and here is the result. We got names!!! I am not sure if these are WMAs or if indeed the disc is a true audio disc that I can play in the 4Runner. I will have to try it out later, and also see if the names show up on my Sony head unit. Now the big question. A $100 program such as Nero can't input the name tags, but a free program such as MP did, I am impressed. And the MP3s did indeed have a tag embedded in them I think. Mousing over the raw MP3s in Explorer even showed the bit rate they were converted at. |
