The only way they will get me to buy a PS3 is if they re-made the first and second Gran Turismo. The first was my all time favorite because of the races, and the second was because of all the cars on it. Otherwise, I will stick to my trusty PS2.

PS3....whatta waste. Wayyyy too expensive for waht you are getting. Not to mention a ripoff of the Wii controller.
I'd much rather purchase an Xbox 360. For price, support, and quality. And how about GT being a "pay as you go" game?? WTF? btw no offense....but i HATE those guys that buy all the consoles up then sell em on Ebay for thousands of dollars more. Thats the reason I still dont have an Xbox 360. THose jackknobs buy all the inventory up, then sell it off for profit. I just want to play some games, but instead 2 years after release I still dont have one.

Even at cost it will be the system to dominate the market just wait and see. Right now Sony controls over 70% of the console market and they have people that are loyal to the system not to mention the people that can afford both.
Sony has some very cutting edge stuff coming in it hence the price plus it has a later start vs the 360 just like how the original XBox had a few things beat on the PS2 due to it's later debut. I personally will milk my PS2 for a couple more years then I'll cave when the price becomes reasonable.

I don't PS3 will be a waste at all. I'm really looking forward to it. I do own an Xbox360 and I'll most likely own a Wii. I'm sure you guys have been looking on other gaming forums and stuff and I'm sure you've seen the price comparison, but... let's look at it again:
We'll just compare the premium 360 to the PS3 premium. Xbox360 - Premium: $399 HD-DVD add-on: speculated at between (and it's external...) $199 and $299 Xbox LIVE $49.99/ year Total (for one year; Range): $647.99 plus tax (if HD-DVD is $199) OR $747.99 (if HD-DVD is $299) Standard Features: 20gb HDD Only 2.4ghz controller (possibly wireless headset) frequency 3 USB ports Infrared for remote control Ethernet port PS3 - Premium (comes with "next-gen" video format installed internally): $599 Free Playstation HUB (online service) Total: $599 plus tax... Standard Features: 60gb HDD Bluetooth (for controllers, possibly headsets) 2.4ghz wireless access point Memory card reader HDMI slot 4 USB ports From what I've heard, the PS3 will have a location free type thing Roll, pitch, yaw sensitive controllers (but no vibration function) Ships with Linux installed *I hope it comes with an IR port* (be dumb not to) Ethernet port So, with the PS3 you're dropping more money at once, but it comes with more stuff from the get go... Though it's nice to be able to upgrade later, Microsoft probably could have saved people some money in the long run by just using an HD-DVD drive in the 360 from the start. I love video games. Though I own a 360, I'm am very much looking forward to the other two systems.

I really think it's all about the Wii and now that my only tie to the Sony systems (Guitar Hero) is going cross-platform, I don't think I'll even need a PS3.
As far as the PS3 being of more value...what happens if/when Blu-Ray goes the way of Beta-max? Sony doesn't exactly have the best track record for introducing new media as a standard. Also, I don't want a jack-of-all-trades, as the phrase "a jack of all trades but master of none" generally holds true. I think the new ideas about gameplay with the Wii make it the system to have. Who cares if it can't run 6000 teraflops a second? I can stiff-arm you by actually throwing my hand in the direction of your defender. I can slash at you with a katana with a swipe of my hand. How cool is that?! I just can't wait to walk out of the store with my Wii waving hi to all the people standing in line for the 3 PS3s in the store.

I knew someone would bring up the Betamax/VHS story... Bottom line is, Betamax offered higher quality video, but the company was stubborn in bringing the price down to the consumer level. Hopefully since the PS3 will already have a Blu-Ray player, it will be more successful than Betamax. Though both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray can offer the same quality of video, the thing Blu-Ray offers is more storage than HD-DVD can offer right now. Think of the vast landscapes and expansive gameplay one could experience when developers utilize ALL if not most of the storage on the Blu-Ray discs. I agree, Wii will be awesome. I won't be standing in line for a PS3, I'm going to wait until at least the second batch... that goes for the Wii also and the same went with the 360.
Also, isn't my computer, or your computer a "Jack of all trades, Master of none"? I would think so.

I totally understand waiting. Two of my friends have launch PS2s...the ones that overheat if you put them in the upright position. While I understand waiting for the second batch (when they fix all the interesting quirks), the Wii really is like an upgraded GameCube...something they've been producing for a while. Either way, the biggest thing I'm looking forward to on a video game front this november isn't a game system, it's Guitar Hero 2...but that's for a different thread.
Also...Sometimes I'm a massive Sony-hater. Even so, I try to be un-biased.

Heh heh... I was really hesitant on buying a 360, being an xbox "hater" I guess... but I've seen the light. I can't dislike one because I didn't own the previous generation (which I thought sucked, but had it's good points)... hahahah I think PS3 will rock... especially since you can remotely access it with your PSP from any access point to change out your playlists...

Havent bougth a system since the old playstation but this new gen of games looks awesome. I'll still wait a few years like I always do. By then the systems will be cheaper and there will be plenty of games for each system to better judge.

I haven't bought a game system since N64. I might buy an Xbox in a year or so....not something I really want to spend money on though.

PS3 still will continue it's dominance with 3rd party game support and BluRay has more industry support than appears including movie studios and BluRay discs hold more info but this war won't be decided as quickly as the VHS/Beta war was.

I'm all PC gamer
the graphics are superior, and I'm not limited to just gaming on it That being said, my uncle works at Microsoft and said employees will be able to buy XBox 360's this Christmas at discount prices (first time for any hardware, usually its just software that's in the employee store)... if it's cheap I might do it to use as a streaming media box... but I'd probably prefer to buy a new videocard for my computer instead.

Yep,PCs are where the real gaming is at but it's hard to sit in front of a computer moniter playing games head to head with your friends unless it's on-line.

Same here. I got my N64 on its way out, when the gamecube was first released... Always seemed to be a generation behind. Oh well, the N64 still plays Smash Bros every now and then so I'm happy.

Smash Bros. is probably one of THE greatest games... Original and Melee... awesome! I love my Gamecube... wish they had more games that I liked...
